Beatrice Gilroy. 23 00:05:00.050 --> 00:05:29.730 WLWV Board Room: Hello, everyone! It's a pleasure to be back speaking with you again at Westland High School. October was a very busy month we started the month with our homecoming. This year's theme was music genres. So each of our 4 porches at Westland High School were decorated in a different music, genre theme, such as disco, rock, hip, hop, and country new. This year we also included our performing Arts Center, which was decorated in a classical theme and the 700 building in an Edm themed 24 00:05:29.730 --> 00:05:30.930 WLWV Board Room: decor. 25 00:05:30.930 --> 00:05:51.710 WLWV Board Room: There was something to do every day of homecoming week. We had spirit dress up days like Pj. Day, Barbenheimer, and wear your spirit shirt where everyone wore the Westland High School spirit shirt Asp had purchased for them earlier in the year. That was great, I'd say about 80% of our student body and staff wore the spirit shirt that day. So that was really visually impactful. 26 00:05:51.710 --> 00:06:02.979 WLWV Board Room: On Wednesday we had our homecoming assembly, which featured class competitions, staff included a cheer off and performances from cheer, dance, choir, and band. 27 00:06:03.120 --> 00:06:15.579 And then Thursday, during the school day, we had a spirit stick competition where asb hid spirit sticks around the school, and students and staff could earn spirit points for their grade by finding that stick. 28 00:06:15.690 --> 00:06:22.900 WLWV Board Room: Thursday evening was our homecoming football game versus Tualton and Westland ended up winning, which is great. 29 00:06:22.900 --> 00:06:47.799 WLWV Board Room: And then on Friday this is something new. This year we had a unity activity. So each life class watched trolls, too, as part of our music genre theme, so intros to all of the characters come from different music genre backgrounds. But by the end of the movie they are able to recognize the beauty in each of their individual music genres. So this really further enforced our overall message that we've been presenting 30 00:06:47.800 --> 00:07:15.779 WLWV Board Room: teaching at Westland High School this year that we're all lions with different roars. Respect the roar. So we may all come from different music backgrounds or personal backgrounds. But at the end of the day we're all lions, and we want to respect each other. And then on Saturday we ended our homecoming week with our homecoming dance on the baseball field, which featured lights and glow sticks, food and drinks, and even a glow in the dark art table. So students liked participating in that. 31 00:07:15.890 --> 00:07:38.329 Later in the month Westland High School recognized team Driver Safety Week. This is something we do every year. As we know, it is very important to our community. There was a pledge table in the library where students could take the pledge to drive safely. And then we also featured a video on our live roar and on our Instagram. Just so students could take that extra second and reflect on their driving habits. 32 00:07:38.500 --> 00:08:03.430 WLWV Board Room: October was also breast cancer awareness month. So October sixteenth, through twentieth we celebrated our pink week at Westland High School, where we decorated the school with pink ribbons and other pink decor. We sold pink shirts in our student store and collected donations at halftime of the football game, with all money going to breast friends, which is a local charity based out of 12, who helps woman recently diagnosed with breast cancer. 33 00:08:04.050 --> 00:08:13.290 October was also dyslexia awareness month. So our wonderful librarian, Mister Greeney, put posters around the library and featured texts about dyslexia 34 00:08:13.500 --> 00:08:34.589 WLWV Board Room: to recognize national hispanic heritage month our Latin student Union hosted their inidosancor zone after school on our early release day, which is pictured on the bottom right there was a live mariachi band, food from song blas, and activities run by Latin student union members. It was a very successful and well organized event, and many students and teachers attended 35 00:08:34.600 --> 00:08:59.220 WLWV Board Room: also on the early release day was a kickball tournament hosted by our fellowship of Christian athletes, and they had a lot of fun with that activity. It's been a very successful month for our sports teams at Westland High School boys, soccer and volleyball both made it to play offs. Our cross country team sent 2 athletes to state this past weekend. Our football team faces Jesuit on Friday for round 2 of playoffs. 36 00:08:59.220 --> 00:09:28.589 WLWV Board Room: and our girls team. Our girls soccer team upset nationally, ranked Jesuit on Saturday and will be playing in the semi finals tomorrow at Cleveland and our Students section was even named National Student Section of the Week by student section report for our pinkout game enthusiasm. And then, in the performing Arts center our Choi choir, concert band, jazz, band, and orchestra. All had concerts. In October they played wonderfully, and we had 18 musicians make it to the All State ensemble. 37 00:09:28.590 --> 00:09:37.080 and our theater department's production of Pipin opened last Thursday, and they have shows coming up this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, as well 38 00:09:37.320 --> 00:09:47.880 WLWV Board Room: normally Asb. Host a carnival during homecoming week. But for scheduling reasons we push this carnival to Friday, October 20 seventh, as one of our final October events. 39 00:09:47.880 --> 00:10:14.140 WLWV Board Room: we turned it into a fall carnival which took place right before the football game that Friday the carnival is designed specifically for Westland High School community members who may not normally get to participate in on campus activities. This is also an opportunity for our clubs to fundraise and earn money. Each of them get to host a booth with games and food, and despite the cold weather, we had almost all of our clubs, host, a booth, and many families stopped by before heading up to the football game. 40 00:10:14.520 --> 00:10:28.069 WLWV Board Room: Our biggest event coming up in November is our annual can food drive, which we have already kicked off, and it will run until the last day before Thanksgiving break. So right now on campus, we're rallying the school to bring in those cans in their life classes. 41 00:10:28.120 --> 00:10:33.150 WLWV Board Room: That's all I have for today, and I look forward to speaking with you all next month. Thank you. 42 00:10:38.870 --> 00:10:43.410 WLWV Board Room: And last, but not least, our Wilsonville High 43 00:10:43.610 --> 00:10:46.220 Representative, Benicia Gonzalez. 44 00:10:50.230 --> 00:11:09.179 WLWV Board Room: Good evening, school members. It's great to see you all again, since it has been some time since I last saw you. My name's Vanessa, and I'm one of the asp presidents at Wilsonville High School. At the last meeting you were informed of the great strides and improvements that we've made at Wilsonville High School. It is my pleasure to let you know that things are still going well. 45 00:11:09.710 --> 00:11:22.620 WLWV Board Room: Last week Ardiade Los Mortos Festival was a success. It was a wonderful community celebration, where a Latino arts and culture class, partnered with mecha, to organize events full of arts, crafts, food, dancing, and music. 46 00:11:22.660 --> 00:11:28.069 WLWV Board Room: There was an it was an amazing turnout, and it was great to see our community come together to celebrate this event. 47 00:11:28.510 --> 00:11:38.609 WLWV Board Room: Our Red Cross club also held our first blood drive. Since 2,019. Last week we had. We had about 70 students and adults donate many students donated for the first time 48 00:11:38.630 --> 00:11:47.379 WLWV Board Room: all the blood donations will be given to local hospitals in Oregon. To those who need it. It was also a really successful blood drive, and we can't wait for our next one. In April. 49 00:11:47.670 --> 00:12:07.249 WLWV Board Room: This past weekend our robotics team competed in the Sacramento in Sacramento, at the Capital City Classic. They placed fifth out of 60 teens teens and took home the innovation and controls award. Their system designed to work in automotes and codes were effective, as you can see, that's the girls. Gen. Robotics team on the slideshow. 50 00:12:08.270 --> 00:12:26.569 WLWV Board Room: As for sports, unified sports has been competing in soccer leading to a third place finish in a recent tournament. This is such a fun and unifying experience. Experience for our school boys and girls soccer are both on to the semi semi-fem finals this week. The boys play at Hood River tomorrow night and the girls play Lasalle at home at 7 51 00:12:26.840 --> 00:12:32.449 WLWV Board Room: Cross Country complete. Competed at state last weekend. The girls team finished seventh overall. 52 00:12:32.630 --> 00:12:52.079 WLWV Board Room: Last, but not least, this Friday football will play in the quarter in the quarter finals at home versus Thurston. The students are extremely excited for the U.S.A. The U.S.A. Out theme, and there's already a lot of chatter about the outfits and the energy they will bring. We will also have a special acknowledgement of veterans. Day of Veterans day before the game 53 00:12:52.610 --> 00:13:07.219 WLWV Board Room: on our calendar. We also have the dedication of the Performing Arts Center, which just recently opened this year we invite you all to this event. On November November thirteenth, at 7 Pm. We will start with a ribbon cutting, and then invite you on tours of the new space and classrooms. 54 00:13:07.450 --> 00:13:23.590 WLWV Board Room: Our college. Lately our college and career, coordinator and counselors have been even more busy than usual. They have been working to ensure. All students have opportunities that align with their goals after they graduate. We have had 2 career field trips to Clackamas Community College and to manufacturing day. 55 00:13:23.790 --> 00:13:28.589 WLWV Board Room: This gave students interested in these types of career a chance to have a hands on experience 56 00:13:29.110 --> 00:13:44.039 WLWV Board Room: and meet with industry professionals. Most seniors have been working on college applications and meeting with their counselors and English teachers for those essays. For those essays a lot more than usual, which I know many students are extremely ga grateful for cause. I know I am 57 00:13:44.050 --> 00:13:54.409 WLWV Board Room: today our first today, our first generation to go to college group that is being brought back for students as a resource, meant to plan how they would like to support, how they would like support. This year. 58 00:13:54.440 --> 00:13:59.679 WLWV Board Room: There were so many students that showed up, and many ideas were brainstormed to how these students could be 59 00:14:00.360 --> 00:14:01.930 WLWV Board Room: comfortable 60 00:14:02.110 --> 00:14:12.130 WLWV Board Room: and supported. In October we had our homecoming assembly, which went really well. It was a success, and we have already began to plan the Winter Assembly later in December 61 00:14:12.140 --> 00:14:23.259 WLWV Board Room: for the Winter Assembly. That we do have youth who are homeless in our district. 72 00:16:11.390 --> 00:16:26.620 and to help educate and know a little bit about what the law requires and what we do, and some of the ways that we wrap around those students as a district, and to just learn a little bit about more about that support system. 73 00:16:26.620 --> 00:16:41.499 and to recognize some of the people that are helping make things work for students in really important ways that help them move forward and be part of our learning communities in powerful ways. So we're excited to share that with you tonight. 74 00:16:44.850 --> 00:16:47.139 WLWV Board Room: Good evening. I am a. 75 00:16:47.700 --> 00:16:53.630 WLWV Board Room: It's a pleasure to be here. We can start a little bit with the 76 00:16:53.840 --> 00:16:57.889 WLWV Board Room: this, the history of Mckinivento. 77 00:16:59.720 --> 00:17:14.410 WLWV Board Room: The homeless Person Survival Act was introduced to Congress in 1,986, and was approved in 1,987, through different advocates and time. It was finally renamed as a Makini Vento Homeless Assistant. 78 00:17:15.819 --> 00:17:26.370 WLWV Board Room: It is the title 7 of the Mcinty Vento Act that provides the Education of homeless children and youth programme administered by the Department of Education. 79 00:17:27.619 --> 00:17:38.819 WLWV Board Room: Its purpose is to provide school stability as well as removal of barriers for education. Despite the lack of fixed place of residence 80 00:17:39.610 --> 00:17:42.689 WLWV Board Room: or supervising parent or guardian 81 00:17:46.220 --> 00:17:50.279 WLWV Board Room: who qualifies any children. 82 00:17:50.480 --> 00:17:56.590 WLWV Board Room: child who experience housing instability due to different causes. 83 00:17:57.330 --> 00:18:00.950 WLWV Board Room: qualify for the program and the districts. 84 00:18:01.380 --> 00:18:03.070 WLWV Board Room: The school districts 85 00:18:03.200 --> 00:18:07.880 WLWV Board Room: must be ready to provide the services for those students. 86 00:18:14.970 --> 00:18:15.700 WLWV Board Room: Yep. 87 00:18:20.570 --> 00:18:27.540 WLWV Board Room: housing, instability. In our community. There are different ways in which this 88 00:18:27.760 --> 00:18:29.390 WLWV Board Room: can present 89 00:18:29.900 --> 00:18:35.309 WLWV Board Room: in our students, in our the families in our district. 90 00:18:35.510 --> 00:18:43.420 WLWV Board Room: some of our families or students are sharing housing with what we call double up. 91 00:18:43.640 --> 00:18:46.449 WLWV Board Room: or they get 92 00:18:48.560 --> 00:18:58.490 WLWV Board Room: get to go to motels right? This is. it could be for different reasons, hardship. loss of housing. 93 00:18:58.820 --> 00:19:01.660 WLWV Board Room: illness. 94 00:19:02.070 --> 00:19:14.820 WLWV Board Room: It could present itself in different ways. There is also those who are UN sheltered. Those situations are, as we know, 95 00:19:15.120 --> 00:19:20.710 WLWV Board Room: they have no basic services, which is, you know if you know, tense 96 00:19:21.360 --> 00:19:26.809 WLWV Board Room: and they live on the streets or in their own cars. 97 00:19:27.710 --> 00:19:32.110 WLWV Board Room: Rvs. These situations, they don't have 98 00:19:32.170 --> 00:19:38.520 WLWV Board Room: electricity or water, those basic services that everybody 99 00:19:38.580 --> 00:19:39.890 WLWV Board Room: normally half. 100 00:19:41.210 --> 00:19:47.210 WLWV Board Room: We also have situations in which the students 101 00:19:48.030 --> 00:19:49.050 WLWV Board Room: move 102 00:19:49.300 --> 00:20:00.879 WLWV Board Room: out of their their place for different reasons as well. They don't. They are not in the care that moment of a guardian or a parent. 103 00:20:01.170 --> 00:20:05.470 WLWV Board Room: And they're either also 104 00:20:05.700 --> 00:20:10.959 WLWV Board Room: putting the care of somebody which is a family member or a friend from the family. 105 00:20:18.000 --> 00:20:31.440 WLWV Board Room: as you can see in the Graphic from the National School Boards Association. You can see the the curve that's. you know, prevalent. And it's going up 106 00:20:32.530 --> 00:20:35.140 WLWV Board Room: and national. 107 00:20:35.210 --> 00:20:37.059 WLWV Board Room: you know, through the nation. 108 00:20:43.380 --> 00:20:48.499 WLWV Board Room: This other graphic shows per state, the 109 00:20:49.120 --> 00:20:54.829 WLWV Board Room: level or the placement that each State has 110 00:20:55.280 --> 00:20:56.660 WLWV Board Room: with homeless 111 00:20:56.800 --> 00:21:04.989 WLWV Board Room: youth. and in this case you can see, Oregon is one of the highest 112 00:21:06.410 --> 00:21:09.630 WLWV Board Room: if you. you know, is for and up 113 00:21:18.580 --> 00:21:34.760 WLWV Board Room: recently, in the last few years due to obviously the pandemic. There were some steps that we're putting in place right to 114 00:21:34.910 --> 00:21:40.840 WLWV Board Room: help and support families in general, and these steps helped. 115 00:21:41.420 --> 00:21:53.080 WLWV Board Room: Some families, right and and this was particularly, you know, shows that it looks like it diminished. 116 00:21:53.410 --> 00:21:55.620 WLWV Board Room: But as those 117 00:21:55.670 --> 00:21:58.750 WLWV Board Room: steps are being removed, as we know 118 00:21:58.970 --> 00:22:03.970 WLWV Board Room: things are coming up a little bit now. It's been a jump. 119 00:22:04.580 --> 00:22:06.070 WLWV Board Room: Just recently. 120 00:22:08.370 --> 00:22:24.869 WLWV Board Room: certainly. Compared to some of our neighboring school districts. We don't have as large a percentage or number of children and families that fall into the category of qualifying for Mckinney vento services. But we have families every year who do. 121 00:22:24.870 --> 00:22:54.859 and our numbers don't have a neat graph, but they ha have average every year. They're somewhere between the lowest we've ever had in the 12 years I've been involved here have been 35, and the highest has been around 70. So we've been in there somewhere. For a family for children that qualify for Mckinney vento services. So that's just in case you're wondering kind of in the local immediate. What are we talking about in terms of numbers. What we have noticed 122 00:22:55.070 --> 00:23:08.440 WLWV Board Room: this year is the number of students that fall into that unsheltered category is much higher than we've had in the past, and the number also in the motel, and very temporary housing is also higher. 123 00:23:08.960 --> 00:23:24.150 WLWV Board Room: One of the other things that we meant to say at the beginning is we know language really matters, and language. Around housing is evolving. And so there are some folks that use different language. Some people use house lists instead of homeless. 124 00:23:24.150 --> 00:23:38.990 WLWV Board Room: We have tended to use homeless, because that's what's in the law around Mckinney vento. So that's the term I'm using. Because that's what's in the law around Mckinney vento. So I just want to acknowledge that some other people in the work will use other terms. So just wanted to share that. 125 00:23:39.710 --> 00:23:55.869 WLWV Board Room: So as we think about that, what is our role in schools? It's a it's a statistic that is so sobering. And so concerning as we think about children and families dealing with such a difficult situation. And we know we're in a really unique 126 00:23:55.940 --> 00:24:03.209 WLWV Board Room: position to really help children. And the next slide really talks about. 127 00:24:03.870 --> 00:24:14.780 WLWV Board Room: what can we do? Well, we can do a lot in schools in terms of being that safe place for kids when other things are unpredictable in their lives. 128 00:24:14.800 --> 00:24:39.690 WLWV Board Room: We can offer that safety and security. We can offer that sense of belonging a place where they can expect consistency and a caring belong environment. Someone that they know is gonna smile and say, you're welcome, and you're here and A warm meal is there for them every single day that security of that organized schedule that they can expect 129 00:24:39.690 --> 00:24:54.030 WLWV Board Room: regular meals, connections to services. Some of the things that our high school students were talking about that connection to. Here's my education. Here's my plans to move forward, so I can have better possibilities and supports 130 00:24:54.030 --> 00:25:08.000 for my own outcomes as I move forward in my own life. As we were reading through some of the resources with some of the groups that we work with. We found this beautiful quote from a homeless student in Oregon that said 131 00:25:08.520 --> 00:25:24.109 WLWV Board Room: through it all, school is probably the only thing that has kept me going. I know that every day that I walk in those doors I can stop thinking about my problems for the next 6 h, and concentrate on what is most important to me. 132 00:25:24.310 --> 00:25:28.909 Without the school system I would not be as well off as I am to day 133 00:25:28.960 --> 00:25:35.009 WLWV Board Room: school keeps me motivated to move on and encourages me to find a better life for myself. 134 00:25:35.580 --> 00:25:44.440 WLWV Board Room: So we know that we play an important role in really being there for children that are in these situations. So let's talk a little bit more about what we can do. 135 00:25:47.860 --> 00:26:04.710 WLWV Board Room: So we know this is about. This is truly one of those takes a village kinds of moments. It's about working together. Whether it's that first morning morning bus driver connection. Being welcomed onto a bus. 136 00:26:05.280 --> 00:26:14.549 WLWV Board Room: If we have a bus that's picking them up, we'll come back to transportation later. And some of the creative ways. We've been getting kids to school. If they're in a motel or in an unsheltered situation. 137 00:26:14.740 --> 00:26:36.429 whether it's that administrative assistant in the office that's welcoming a student in, or sometimes is that first person that realizes this family might be homeless. and makes that first gentle connection to say, Hey, we might be able to how you doing? We might be able to support you. If you're going through a difficult time, teachers. 138 00:26:36.450 --> 00:26:49.410 WLWV Board Room: we we know the incredible work teachers are doing to wrap around their children and give that care and connection, our school counselors in such tremendous ways, our administrators 139 00:26:49.410 --> 00:27:12.480 WLWV Board Room: that go out of their ways to build connection to children and make resources available to them. Our mental health specialists and social workers. They partner really deeply around, supporting all children, whether it's in home visits and connecting with them in really deep ways, making sure we have connections to outside resources as well. 140 00:27:12.500 --> 00:27:22.160 Some of our student services staff. I'm gonna just mention Brenda Hogan very specifically in some of this work, our nutrition services team. 141 00:27:22.210 --> 00:27:38.450 WLWV Board Room: so that when we do re recognize that a student is homeless, or may qualify for Mckinney vento immediately. Make sure any bills that they had around a food are zeroed out, and we get them free and redo free meals moving forward. 142 00:27:38.590 --> 00:27:47.179 WLWV Board Room: And our business office helps make those bridges happen so that students can get food and that pressure is released from that family. 143 00:27:49.230 --> 00:28:09.110 WLWV Board Room: So, as you know, in 2020, we started our family Empowerment Center and taken up with this beautiful vision of empowering families to become active advocates in their child's education and and family empowerment Center has taken on so many things, resources for families, community education, classes 144 00:28:09.170 --> 00:28:33.559 WLWV Board Room: supporting newcomer families, enrichment things like ballet for clarico, and so much more. And this year, we added, becoming our official district liaison for Mckinney vento, because with all those connections with families, it really makes sense. And so I'm gonna have Maria, just talk a little bit about what that looked like in terms of being that district. Liaison. 145 00:28:40.550 --> 00:28:42.250 WLWV Board Room: Well. 146 00:28:42.540 --> 00:28:49.470 WLWV Board Room: it's been a very interesting start of the school year. and a very busy one. 147 00:28:49.940 --> 00:28:53.410 WLWV Board Room: yeah. 148 00:28:53.710 --> 00:28:55.900 WLWV Board Room: it's 149 00:28:56.070 --> 00:29:01.049 WLWV Board Room: I've been the liaison in particular. 150 00:29:01.140 --> 00:29:08.850 WLWV Board Room: through, you know, learning through different organizations what those liaison mean. 151 00:29:09.030 --> 00:29:12.540 and what am I supposed to be doing? 152 00:29:14.470 --> 00:29:23.309 WLWV Board Room: it's it's something that I think it I can do because of of the work I do. I fec 153 00:29:23.500 --> 00:29:32.280 WLWV Board Room: having those relationships with those families right even at school, even if they have that point of contact 154 00:29:32.490 --> 00:29:43.950 WLWV Board Room: at school, or the person that they they trust him us at the school level. We make sure and check in with those families. constantly. 155 00:29:44.330 --> 00:29:50.499 Also, if there are barriers for enrollment just 156 00:29:50.920 --> 00:29:59.340 WLWV Board Room: to school or to any of the activities we just recently had a student that needed a 157 00:29:59.470 --> 00:30:14.600 WLWV Board Room: health check up, and we made it happen to have one check up the next day. Get get that paper signed by the doctor, and and, you know, ready for return to school and and start the activity 158 00:30:14.710 --> 00:30:21.419 WLWV Board Room: mit Ctl. And transportation is another way, where we coordinate with our bus company 159 00:30:21.890 --> 00:30:24.240 as well as other 160 00:30:24.290 --> 00:30:25.410 WLWV Board Room: a 161 00:30:26.310 --> 00:30:37.930 WLWV Board Room: other companies that have been helping, for example, for immediate and and emergency transportation. While the Bus company prepares 162 00:30:38.130 --> 00:30:40.879 WLWV Board Room: the route for these children 163 00:30:41.320 --> 00:30:46.849 WLWV Board Room: we connect with Uber. Uber has a system where we can 164 00:30:47.350 --> 00:30:49.109 WLWV Board Room: place in a 165 00:30:49.210 --> 00:30:54.340 WLWV Board Room: connected to people of frost, and those people are checking on the on the route. 166 00:30:54.810 --> 00:31:03.250 If the child is unable to go on their own, we have an adult going with the students, and we transport round trip. 167 00:31:03.820 --> 00:31:13.119 WLWV Board Room: sometimes it happens that. you know there is no driver. So we have a 168 00:31:13.380 --> 00:31:28.379 WLWV Board Room: wonderful staff members that jump in and and and make it happen because we don't want these children to be losing more school, especially going to a safe place where they can resume their normal, daily, regular life. 169 00:31:29.070 --> 00:31:36.920 WLWV Board Room: Also, we help with the base basic needs, especially when we had to help the those that needed 170 00:31:38.670 --> 00:31:42.360 WLWV Board Room: bedding for the place where they were staying. 171 00:31:42.550 --> 00:31:52.740 Any of that, if clothing is necessarily, if we cannot get it via other means. That is a way that also we are checking on them. 172 00:31:53.450 --> 00:32:03.870 WLWV Board Room: Connections to the community. That's something that is critical, because as soon as you learn and they qualify for the program. 173 00:32:04.390 --> 00:32:14.209 WLWV Board Room: are, you are trying to make things happen because some things take time and it depend on the situation they are. 174 00:32:14.270 --> 00:32:16.019 WLWV Board Room: It's the connections 175 00:32:16.120 --> 00:32:20.089 WLWV Board Room: we're gonna be making for them and the community. 176 00:32:20.570 --> 00:32:23.180 WLWV Board Room: And obviously, 177 00:32:24.180 --> 00:32:29.890 WLWV Board Room: all of them. The majority of them have you know those resources? 178 00:32:30.240 --> 00:32:37.039 WLWV Board Room: Snap, Tanf, all of all of those services that are part of 179 00:32:37.120 --> 00:32:39.539 WLWV Board Room: the the title 180 00:32:39.790 --> 00:32:41.460 WLWV Board Room: that covers 181 00:32:41.590 --> 00:32:48.899 WLWV Board Room: family youth and and the life for these students, you know, like the food their 182 00:32:49.060 --> 00:32:52.560 WLWV Board Room: where are they going to go and get their basic stuff? 183 00:32:54.050 --> 00:32:55.640 WLWV Board Room: and 184 00:32:56.750 --> 00:33:02.290 WLWV Board Room: we try to have these Very 185 00:33:03.620 --> 00:33:09.060 WLWV Board Room: non-judgmental. No. no 186 00:33:09.610 --> 00:33:20.519 WLWV Board Room: expression in the sense that it's you know. What did you do? Right? It's anybody can go through certain things. 187 00:33:21.810 --> 00:33:26.110 WLWV Board Room: Yeah, so we just wanted to 188 00:33:26.340 --> 00:33:39.300 WLWV Board Room: take tonight to raise awareness. I just want to personally thank Maria for taking on more in her role. And with such grace and 189 00:33:39.740 --> 00:33:45.959 WLWV Board Room: and with partnership with so many others in our district who are doing this work so beautifully. And 190 00:33:46.470 --> 00:33:48.700 WLWV Board Room: It's 191 00:33:50.680 --> 00:34:02.699 WLWV Board Room: there's there's a lot of need. And there's a lot of people wrapping around our amazing children and families. And we just wanted to take a moment to recognize this in this month 192 00:34:02.760 --> 00:34:16.839 WLWV Board Room: around homelessness. And there's a wonderful organization that Kathy helped us connect to a number of years ago called Second Home, that we partner with around some of the unaccompanied youth that can help provide safe 193 00:34:16.969 --> 00:34:30.729 WLWV Board Room: settings sometimes for unaccompanied use. So if you're interested in that in the community and let us know. And we just wanted to thank Maria, and if you have any questions, let us know. But other than that wanted to share that with you tonight. 194 00:34:36.190 --> 00:34:37.110 WLWV Board Room: Thank you. 195 00:34:38.179 --> 00:34:40.150 WLWV Board Room: Any questions from anyone. No. 196 00:34:44.560 --> 00:34:51.439 WLWV Board Room: Maria, thank you so much for that. You're you're mentioning of of our 0 judgment 197 00:34:51.679 --> 00:34:55.730 WLWV Board Room: about about our students who might be homeless. 198 00:34:55.960 --> 00:35:08.850 WLWV Board Room: I think the statistics in this country about how often a family in crisis is just related to maybe one medical bill right? It's just so easy for that to happen to families. So I really appreciate your 199 00:35:08.960 --> 00:35:18.560 WLWV Board Room: comment there. And Jennifer, one of your slides, talked about partners, school Board members, were not mentioned there it was. So if you could update that, that'd be great. Yeah, thanks. 200 00:35:21.850 --> 00:35:23.239 WLWV Board Room: Anyone else. Oh. 201 00:35:23.510 --> 00:35:52.040 WLWV Board Room: I just want. And anytime we get an opportunity to publicly thank fabulous Maria Horton for all that she is doing in our district. When when we envision the Family Empowerment Center and placing her at the helm of that program. Was just such a perfect placement. And along the way she has built incredible connections throughout the community. Once I didn't even know existed both in our county and others. She's leveraged funds and access points. 202 00:35:52.040 --> 00:36:15.909 WLWV Board Room: She's relentless in her pursuit to find any resource for a family, but not just that th. The term empowerment is there for a reason? And it's about then asking families, what do you need? And what else can we provide for you. And how do you wanna see yourself empowered in this role and the classes that she's been able to bring in through Ccc. That are free to any parents. 203 00:36:15.930 --> 00:36:20.259 WLWV Board Room: And then parents teaching other parents in the classes is remarkable. 204 00:36:20.510 --> 00:36:27.909 WLWV Board Room: So I want to thank you, Maria, and for taking on this additional component with Mckinney vento as just a Testament to your giving spirit. 205 00:36:27.940 --> 00:36:36.849 WLWV Board Room: and how well you're regarding the community and the resources you're already know about it made perfect sense, but also your willing spirit 206 00:36:37.050 --> 00:36:40.760 WLWV Board Room: is so valued and appreciated. So thank you, Mr. 207 00:36:46.750 --> 00:36:53.450 WLWV Board Room: Thank you. And that will take us into our board and superintendent reports 208 00:36:53.650 --> 00:36:56.930 and director shoemaker, you get to lead us off. 209 00:36:57.620 --> 00:37:12.270 WLWV Board Room: Okay? Well, I'm gonna read my board report tonight in the interest of efficiency. First, thank you to the schools that hosted me on my recent board visits. I visited Lowry and Trillium primaries, murdered Creek, Middle School in Westland High School. 210 00:37:12.600 --> 00:37:18.490 I like that I saw primary, middle, and high. It allowed me to see the coherence at all of our levels 211 00:37:18.860 --> 00:37:28.369 WLWV Board Room: when we are working to improve, which is always, it is important that there be consistent and effective approaches, and that we share a common division. So thank you for that. 212 00:37:28.820 --> 00:37:38.359 WLWV Board Room: I also wanted to take a minute to thank our community members who continue to reach out to us. I was meeting with a parent recently who said she sometimes wonders what we think. 213 00:37:38.470 --> 00:37:50.470 WLWV Board Room: She indicated that our board reports and our public discussions don't always effectively give the community an idea of our thinking, and I liked Dr. Or I liked director sloop Nurkar Vidal. 214 00:37:51.040 --> 00:38:03.459 WLWV Board Room: last month. I really felt like I heard what you think and what you value. So thank you for that. So tonight my board report is meant to give you a view into my thinking. Now that I'm starting my fifth board meeting 215 00:38:04.110 --> 00:38:11.019 WLWV Board Room: first, I continue to think about our high school students and their sense of purpose as they complete grades. 9. Through 12. 216 00:38:11.190 --> 00:38:15.190 I want every student to feel they are working towards something 217 00:38:15.650 --> 00:38:33.480 WLWV Board Room: that our schools can set them on a positive life trajectory as high school, as high performing high schools. We have many college bound students, but sometimes the many students who aren't sure if college is the right choice, or if it's the right choice right away. 218 00:38:33.640 --> 00:38:38.060 feel like. So everyone else maybe has it figured out which they don't. 219 00:38:38.580 --> 00:38:44.719 WLWV Board Room: I heard at all levels that our teachers are identify identifying their own Y as educators. 220 00:38:45.320 --> 00:38:56.910 WLWV Board Room: And I appreciated hearing some of our high school students discuss why they come to school. why they want to do well for some. Their why is related to the many extracurricular offerings we provide. 221 00:38:57.020 --> 00:39:10.750 WLWV Board Room: and I'm reminded of the importance of those programs. I was also pleased to hear the value our students are already placing on CTE. Programs. There are growing options for students to learn skills in our schools that they can apply as they leave our doors. 222 00:39:11.430 --> 00:39:22.849 WLWV Board Room: While visiting middle and primary schools, I was reminded that we cannot achieve the outcomes we desire at the end of our system. If we aren't doing an exceptional job all the way through. 223 00:39:23.130 --> 00:39:28.289 WLWV Board Room: I appreciate that each school principal mentioned the scores that show achievement. 224 00:39:28.680 --> 00:39:32.259 WLWV Board Room: We know that these scores are not everything, but they are important. 225 00:39:32.280 --> 00:39:47.160 WLWV Board Room: and nobody in our system believes that we should accept scores that show large numbers of our students not succeeding. I heard from principles that they have disaggregated their data to see the patterns that help us know who needs or is likely to need, more support. 226 00:39:47.430 --> 00:39:58.509 WLWV Board Room: Our schools have plans to improve scores and achievement. I heard that pretty clearly in my visits. We all know that adopting curriculum is vitally important, but it is not enough. Teachers must be well trained. 227 00:39:58.560 --> 00:40:10.609 WLWV Board Room: and we must follow through with interventions. I have just 2 quick, final thoughts. I know that everyone up here, without exception, values transparency. I confess I'm not sure I know how we measure it. 228 00:40:10.980 --> 00:40:24.740 WLWV Board Room: Talking to community members helps me. But so again, I wanna thank those who reach out to us. Our board goals include language about being transparent, and I look forward to learning more about how we can do it well as a board 229 00:40:24.910 --> 00:40:41.909 WLWV Board Room: and we want to do that in ways that include our community. And further our mission. Finally and relatedly, I'm thinking about how school boards do their work effectively. Generally. What does it mean to be a great school board? How do we become great at this work? 230 00:40:42.360 --> 00:40:49.370 WLWV Board Room: I appreciate the support of our current Board members. You've been generous with your time and quite patient with us new folk. 231 00:40:49.700 --> 00:41:00.180 WLWV Board Room: It was helpful. Last week, when we some of us were able to talk with board members from several surrounding districts and our friends in Lake Us. We hosted a gathering for for School Board members. 232 00:41:00.340 --> 00:41:09.530 And I look forward to connecting with more Board members from around the State at the School Board Association of Oregon's Annual event later this week in Portland. 233 00:41:09.580 --> 00:41:15.120 WLWV Board Room: And as I continue to think about how we can do this work well. that's it. 234 00:41:18.910 --> 00:41:24.959 WLWV Board Room: You for that director, shoemaker. director, sloop. The floor is yours. 235 00:41:27.490 --> 00:41:28.700 WLWV Board Room: Alright. 236 00:41:29.330 --> 00:41:33.999 WLWV Board Room: As I was getting ready to decide what I was going to do for my board report 237 00:41:34.830 --> 00:41:44.770 WLWV Board Room: as sitting here. I always notice our mural behind, and it always says, Think of the children first. and there was always like a little rocking chair here in front. 238 00:41:45.040 --> 00:41:53.480 WLWV Board Room: and just as a reminder that we we as a board, always want to keep our students first student centered 239 00:41:53.500 --> 00:41:56.440 WLWV Board Room: so November. 240 00:41:57.000 --> 00:42:06.799 WLWV Board Room: there's a lot of different national awareness months or topics for November. But tonight I'm going to talk about child safety and Protection month 241 00:42:06.870 --> 00:42:09.569 WLWV Board Room: as well as National Scholarship month. 242 00:42:10.680 --> 00:42:14.840 WLWV Board Room: child, safety and protection. Month encompasses, bullying 243 00:42:15.110 --> 00:42:21.779 WLWV Board Room: substance, use poison, poisoning, injury, violence, suicide, and self-harm. 244 00:42:21.930 --> 00:42:36.050 WLWV Board Room: safety, safe driving, and other safety measures that you would think of, you know, as a parent when it's child-proof in your home or drowning, and also like safe infant sleep. But I'm going to focus on bullying. 245 00:42:36.820 --> 00:42:48.360 WLWV Board Room: Bullying is painful and can have lasting effects. According to one Cdc study, 15% of students experience cyberbullying and 20% of our students 246 00:42:48.510 --> 00:42:50.360 WLWV Board Room: are bullied in person. 247 00:42:50.980 --> 00:42:54.439 WLWV Board Room: Bullying can happen anywhere and to anyone 248 00:42:54.760 --> 00:43:09.269 WLWV Board Room: no single factor puts a student at risk depending on the environment. However, some groups like Lgbtq plus youth, with disabilities or those that are socially isolated may be at increased risk. 249 00:43:09.620 --> 00:43:19.539 WLWV Board Room: Bullying can have serious impacts on a student that can be lifelong. The student can can can suffer anxiety, depression. 250 00:43:19.590 --> 00:43:21.420 WLWV Board Room: sleep, disturbances. 251 00:43:21.570 --> 00:43:26.289 WLWV Board Room: poor school judgement, adjustment and substance misuse. The bully. 252 00:43:26.300 --> 00:43:41.130 WLWV Board Room: can be at an increased risk for more serious violence later on. academic and behavioral issues and substance use as a parent. It is painful to know your child is often the brunt of jokes and pranks. 253 00:43:41.420 --> 00:43:46.030 WLWV Board Room: I often found myself asking, why is the bully bullying? 254 00:43:46.270 --> 00:43:55.080 WLWV Board Room: What is the underlying cause? What is happening at their home is a bully. Struggling? Is the bully depressed 255 00:43:55.570 --> 00:44:11.459 WLWV Board Room: many times bullying comes down to social, emotional behaviors, creating partnerships with agencies and organizations that support programs for building awareness and prevention is key. One model is a tier one through tier 3. 256 00:44:11.980 --> 00:44:17.240 WLWV Board Room: It's all some or few, with different levels of support and intervention. 257 00:44:17.550 --> 00:44:33.000 WLWV Board Room: Pbis is positive behavioral intervention and supports. And it's listed on the slide over there. There's also stopbooling Gov. And then some of a lot of the information that I got was from childrensafetynetwork. 258 00:44:34.590 --> 00:44:49.540 WLWV Board Room: and, as I said, November is also National Scholarship month. For those students who plan to attend college financing. Their education can be stressful and daunting. Scholarships, grants and student loans are funding options 259 00:44:49.790 --> 00:45:00.100 WLWV Board Room: according to scholarshipproviders.org. 95 billion dollars is awarded in grants and scholarships by the US. Department of Education 260 00:45:00.150 --> 00:45:08.959 WLWV Board Room: and the Nation's University and colleges. There's an additional 7.4 billion dollars awarded through private scholarships and fellowships each year. 261 00:45:09.370 --> 00:45:13.210 WLWV Board Room: Scholarships are free money. You don't have to pay back. 262 00:45:13.730 --> 00:45:25.730 WLWV Board Room: There are many types of scholarships available. And as I was doing my research, I even came across there's a scholarship for twins and also a scholarship from little people of America if you're 5, 10, or under 263 00:45:27.690 --> 00:45:30.660 WLWV Board Room: for 10. Yes. So I didn't see. Yeah. 264 00:45:30.770 --> 00:45:35.030 WLWV Board Room: yeah, like 5, 10, no. 4, 10. So I didn't qualify. 265 00:45:35.700 --> 00:45:40.489 WLWV Board Room: Besides talking to a school guidance. Counselor. There's some websites that can be helpful. 266 00:45:40.540 --> 00:45:52.499 WLWV Board Room: There's Scholaru Com, and they even have like a template for an essay how to write a thank you. Letter. The good old Fafsa. If you're not aware of that, it's 267 00:45:53.470 --> 00:45:57.889 WLWV Board Room: free application for Federal student aid. And the key 268 00:45:58.150 --> 00:46:08.630 WLWV Board Room: application time is between October first and February first. If you want to get the most funding, that's where you'll find out if you get. If you qualify for a student loan, a grant 269 00:46:08.850 --> 00:46:19.499 WLWV Board Room: like a Pell grant or work study. And then there's Fastweb Com as well, and that's wealth of information on scholarships and applications and resources, and 270 00:46:19.600 --> 00:46:21.339 WLWV Board Room: how you can even 271 00:46:21.380 --> 00:46:26.709 WLWV Board Room: start looking for different ones that you want. The key thing is 272 00:46:26.850 --> 00:46:39.180 WLWV Board Room: don't fall for any website that you have to pay money. These scholarships to apply should be free. Some may think I can't even afford to go to college. It's frightening how expensive college is these days 273 00:46:39.920 --> 00:46:45.849 WLWV Board Room: when I was a freshman at Westland High School, my parents told me that I would have to pay for my own college education. 274 00:46:45.890 --> 00:46:51.580 WLWV Board Room: because my brothers and I are so close in age, and they wouldn't be able to pay for all 3 of us in college. 275 00:46:53.170 --> 00:47:00.889 WLWV Board Room: I knew at that time that I had a study and try and get academic scholarship, and I also started working 276 00:47:00.980 --> 00:47:06.890 WLWV Board Room: at my first real job at 15, which was at a candy store in the Oregon City shopping center. 277 00:47:07.820 --> 00:47:22.859 WLWV Board Room: II worked after school and weekends, and when I was a senior applied for Fafsa and I got a student loan, and I was awarded a work study where I collected the punch meal cards in the dining hall at Oregon State. 278 00:47:23.300 --> 00:47:38.929 WLWV Board Room: I also applied for academic scholarships, and I was awarded one from Oregon State. and one from Tectonics, where my dad worked on a production line for semiconductors at Osu. Each year I continued applying for scholarships through departments and clubs. 279 00:47:39.640 --> 00:47:47.199 WLWV Board Room: and I can say that I was able to pay for my way through college. and when our kids wanted to go to college. 280 00:47:47.860 --> 00:47:59.700 WLWV Board Room: We told them that they would have to try and get academic scholarships, and that was their responsibility or their job is to keep the renewable academic scholarships by maintaining the required Gpa. 281 00:48:00.190 --> 00:48:10.580 WLWV Board Room: Our daughter, qualified for a wooy. which is a Western undergrad exchange at Csu. Her scholarship was based on grades, and the act score. 282 00:48:10.940 --> 00:48:18.600 WLWV Board Room: Several States offer a louis. There are 16 states that participate, and you pay 1.5 times. The resident tuition 283 00:48:19.150 --> 00:48:27.820 WLWV Board Room: applying for a scholarship should never cost you anything. And don't forget there's there's local scholarships like through the lions or the rotary. 284 00:48:28.820 --> 00:48:33.210 WLWV Board Room: It's never. It never hurts to try and apply for a scholarship. 285 00:48:34.350 --> 00:48:35.070 WLWV Board Room: Someone 286 00:48:39.990 --> 00:48:40.860 WLWV Board Room: you 287 00:48:41.520 --> 00:48:44.550 I will now pass the baton to 288 00:48:44.670 --> 00:49:14.620 WLWV Board Room: Director Vidal. Thank you so much. In October I focused on supporting our levy by visiting with our Ptas. And the Wilsonville Rotary Club. Voting by tomorrow. November seventh is extremely important to secure 90 jobs for our teachers to maintain the academic excellence and support we have in our district. 289 00:49:14.620 --> 00:49:26.050 We know and understand that our district is nothing without its teachers, and that voting for the levy is how we show support 290 00:49:26.050 --> 00:49:54.099 WLWV Board Room: for our teachers and our schools. Moving on to my activities. In October I was able to visit Riverside High School and attend the dedication there, and also at Acre Middle School. And both of these schools really show the importance of educational environment for our students. They are so beautiful I can't even 291 00:49:54.370 --> 00:50:20.379 WLWV Board Room: I mean, I just wanna underscore just how gorgeous they are. And what wonderful classrooms our students have to learn in. I also attended the Harvest Festival at Lowri, primary and Diaos Muertos at Wilsonville High School, which was so beautiful and fun to see communities of all colors joining together. 292 00:50:20.380 --> 00:50:30.699 WLWV Board Room: watching the amazing dancers and looking at the beautiful artwork in that brand new auditorium. So I am done with my update. 293 00:50:33.420 --> 00:50:38.979 WLWV Board Room: you and I will turn it over to Vice Chair. Wyatt. 294 00:50:39.440 --> 00:51:07.419 WLWV Board Room: Hi! There! So I had the chance to visit my 3 schools. In this past month, and so I went to Cedar Oak and Stafford primary schools, and then to the new Athe Creek Middle School, and you know those the visits, and I think you've folks have heard us talk about them, but they're really designed to get us out from behind. These desks and into the classroom to really understand? 295 00:51:07.420 --> 00:51:25.460 The programs that we are talking about or you know, thinking about for the budget or learning more about as it relates to assessments. And so it's a chance for us to really kind of see the true to life experience. And what happens after these meetings end 296 00:51:25.460 --> 00:51:46.280 and the schools do a phenomenal job of preparing for us. There is an agenda. There is a presentation. We all get an in-depth look at test scores and at their school work plans. Then usually we get a chance to visit classrooms, and then the day ends with a visit with students. And so. 297 00:51:46.280 --> 00:52:13.550 you know, for folks listening. That may not seem like that big of a deal, but I think that sometimes for us, when we are used to reviewing agenda packets and talking through financial reports and long range plans. That chance to be in the classroom is so incredibly valuable, and those visits happen because of the great work of folks here in the district office, and then the folks in the schools who take the time out to walk us through 298 00:52:13.730 --> 00:52:36.469 WLWV Board Room: their test scores and walk us through their plans. And so it really is. An incredible experience. Talking with the students is always a delight, especially at the primary schools, because I think, try as they might, they are completely unscripted, and you're not quite sure what some of the kids will say. But I think what I took away from it is. 299 00:52:36.570 --> 00:52:57.709 WLWV Board Room: we talk a lot about data and assessments and progress. And you know, to be sure, that is so important as we measure the work that we do. But when you go into the schools you start to realize that what really makes that data come to life is the fact that we have schools that are 300 00:52:57.710 --> 00:53:14.910 staffed well enough and are focused to really understand what that data means on a student by student basis and it's a chance to really see how the teachers and the learning specialists and the reading specialists can break down 301 00:53:14.910 --> 00:53:41.420 WLWV Board Room: test scores and understand how they drill down and provide the interventions and supports that our kids need and it's pretty phenomenal, because again, when we sit up here and we zoom way back. And we're looking at a district wide set of data. It's really different than when you sit in those classrooms. And you know that these teachers and these administrators know the kids that need their help. And so I just really wanna thank 302 00:53:41.420 --> 00:53:58.049 WLWV Board Room: all of the teachers and administrators that helped me on my visits, and I think I can speak for the board. When I say that those visits are just phenomenal at just providing that color to the work that we do. And all of this being said to follow Director Vdol's comments. 303 00:53:58.050 --> 00:54:21.390 WLWV Board Room: we have this phenomenal opportunity to really know our students and to understand how this data affects their learning, because we have 90 teachers in our school that are funded by our levy. And so I think, I said, you know, a couple of months ago that I would not let a board report go by without commenting on the fact that we must pass the levy tomorrow night. It funds 90 positions. 304 00:54:21.390 --> 00:54:39.949 WLWV Board Room: Those 90 positions are essential for the class sizes that make it possible for us to truly understand our students. So if you haven't voted yet. go home tonight, fill out your ballot, and just know that that is what makes our district so strong. So just really hope that folks will take time to support the levy 305 00:54:39.950 --> 00:55:08.790 WLWV Board Room: and then, lastly, add a chance to go to the A/C Creek Middle School ribbon cutting had a chance to see Director Taylor operate a very sharp pair of scissors, but most importantly, had a chance to see that gorgeous school and again, another example of how, when we invest in our school district, amazing things happen. So really fun exciting month, and looking forward to hearing more over the next couple of months by fellow directors about their school visits, too. So thank you. 306 00:55:13.470 --> 00:55:15.010 Vice chair, Wyatt. 307 00:55:15.640 --> 00:55:20.820 WLWV Board Room: and I guess I get an opportunity now, so I'll save my 308 00:55:23.070 --> 00:55:24.440 WLWV Board Room: few things 309 00:55:25.050 --> 00:55:31.810 WLWV Board Room: first off, I wanna just congratulate and continue to send well wishes out to 310 00:55:31.960 --> 00:55:34.190 our sports teams who are competing 311 00:55:34.390 --> 00:55:35.420 WLWV Board Room: currently 312 00:55:35.450 --> 00:55:43.720 and who who may not be finished competing in fall sports. And so we've had so much success this fall, and that's exciting to see. 313 00:55:43.820 --> 00:55:53.829 WLWV Board Room: One thing I'm a little torn on which I mentioned the other day is that our West Lynn High School girls will be going on to play 314 00:55:53.860 --> 00:56:07.380 WLWV Board Room: the Cleveland warrior girls, and I'm a Cleveland warrior alumnist. So I'm torn on that one because I'm a big big fan of Pio sports. So so I'm I'm thinking about actually going to that game and watching it live. 315 00:56:07.830 --> 00:56:14.649 I also was able to have 3 school walkthroughs like my counterparts. 316 00:56:14.910 --> 00:56:33.800 WLWV Board Room: I was fortunate to walk through Wilsonville High School with their staff and leadership team, Boons Ferry, and also Rosemont and and I'll echo some some of the similar things that vice chair, Wyatt had to say, and and some of the other board directors. 317 00:56:33.990 --> 00:56:37.559 WLWV Board Room: my favorite part of walkthroughs is the kids. 318 00:56:37.890 --> 00:56:43.120 WLWV Board Room: kids is where I spend a lot of my time is where I'm philanthropic. It's 319 00:56:43.280 --> 00:56:45.979 WLWV Board Room: kids all across the board are near and dear to me. So 320 00:56:46.170 --> 00:56:51.989 and I love being able to sit down when we have the student panels, and we get their perspective of 321 00:56:52.040 --> 00:56:57.239 WLWV Board Room: of the work that we all think that we're doing right, and we think is in their best interest, and they kinda 322 00:56:57.350 --> 00:57:12.729 WLWV Board Room: shed light on some of their experiences. And I will say that at all 3 schools that I walked through the student responses was was pretty phenomenal. And there's always challenges that some kids have. But they were even willing to 323 00:57:12.800 --> 00:57:25.100 share and have the courage to talk about whatever their challenges were within the schools. And it sounded to me that The staff was very supportive of those kids 324 00:57:25.290 --> 00:57:36.850 WLWV Board Room: and and all of the successes that they're having and some of the challenges that they're having. So that was good to see. Walking through classrooms is always fun, because you kinda get to see the kids in the raw environment 325 00:57:36.960 --> 00:57:54.229 WLWV Board Room: and sometimes when you walk in that, you know, you get all the eyes turned to you. And they're like, why are these 6, 7 people walking through our classroom when we're trying to learn? But it's always fun to kinda get that raw engagement and see him at work. You get to see some of those kids that we talk about that are part of our inclusive model. 326 00:57:54.330 --> 00:58:02.449 and and how they're set up in the class amongst all the other kids, and doing their thing and learning the way that they prefer to learn and 327 00:58:02.570 --> 00:58:13.530 WLWV Board Room: and the staff are are. You could see the heavy lifting. And so it's always nice to see the greatness in our teachers and the kids just so excited to be there with them so. 328 00:58:14.370 --> 00:58:28.570 WLWV Board Room: and just to echo off of what you said a little bit about that local option, Levy. I don't want to be the dead horse, but I brought signs so there's some extra signs out in the hall. If you'd like to put one up in your yard. Please feel free to take one. 329 00:58:28.680 --> 00:58:30.570 We'd like you to have one. 330 00:58:30.640 --> 00:58:35.639 WLWV Board Room: and hopefully you believe in supporting the levy and keeping those 90 teachers 331 00:58:35.660 --> 00:58:44.159 in their position so that they can keep doing the good work that they do. The other thing I want I want I want to do is just give a 332 00:58:44.510 --> 00:58:50.240 WLWV Board Room: send out a a hug and prayers to any of our community members who 333 00:58:50.250 --> 00:59:06.540 WLWV Board Room: maybe are sitting here in this wonderful country that we get to sit in and watch what's going on across the world. And and all these different communities. There's wars all over the world, and we have people in our community that are sitting back that can't reach family members and 334 00:59:06.580 --> 00:59:20.039 WLWV Board Room: and so I just wanna send kind of a heartfelt hug out to any one of our communities who have family members are in these other countries that are either bombed or or being bombed, or 335 00:59:20.070 --> 00:59:28.980 WLWV Board Room: have lost loved ones. So I don't want it to go, and said that we don't think about you every day, and and hopefully, soon things will will get better. So 336 00:59:29.760 --> 00:59:35.830 and lastly, we got an email about some wonderful things that our kids are doing 337 00:59:36.000 --> 00:59:38.410 WLWV Board Room: and the community and 338 00:59:38.640 --> 01:00:04.790 WLWV Board Room: we had a request. And it's actually nice when we get some of these emails to thank a hundred 16 fourth and fifth graders and their 6 teachers Kevin bombick Travis Bullard, Shawn Dee Gregorgio. I don't wanna mess his name up Rita Forsy, Jessica Orth and Bret Waller and 12 parents who joined from Willemar primary school 339 01:00:04.820 --> 01:00:06.780 to help 340 01:00:07.250 --> 01:00:19.910 WLWV Board Room: be a part of cutting ivy off of the Savannah Oaks. And so yes, it's a big community event, and kids join in, and they have a great time. So I wanted to just give a quick shout out to those kids who helped in that 341 01:00:19.920 --> 01:00:32.790 WLWV Board Room: there was also another group that participated in the environmental science Cte program and volunteered at the solve event. And there were 4 students in particular. 342 01:00:33.240 --> 01:00:44.419 WLWV Board Room: part of the Environmental Science program, and those 4 students were Ella Kern Kearney. I want to say Aubrey Loomis, Riley Gombok and Owen Schultz. 343 01:00:44.560 --> 01:01:06.880 WLWV Board Room: And they went out. And actually, they were the 4 students who cut off ivy, the other we're doing other work on the savannah tree. So kids doing really good things in the community, glad to see him out there using their hands and not on their phones. So I'm always get praised when I see this. So thank you for the time, and I'll turn it over to Dr. Lugwin for the superintendent report. 344 01:01:10.230 --> 01:01:31.250 WLWV Board Room: Thank you. And while that's coming up, I want to say about that rocking chair director. So it's actually getting a little facelift every now and then. We have to, just. you know. Make sure the paint is updated, and it'll be back in. Some of our art students are actually taking it on as a little project, and it'll be ready soon it'll be back in here. So thank you for recognizing that it was gone. 345 01:01:31.380 --> 01:01:34.420 WLWV Board Room: All right. Our next slide. 346 01:01:35.650 --> 01:01:43.420 WLWV Board Room: I do want to also each month. Just recognize an awareness month. And this is native American Heritage month 347 01:01:43.600 --> 01:02:00.099 WLWV Board Room: and in recognizing that. And of course our students and and the cultural importance of this month want to remind our Board members that in 2,017 there was a significant Senate bill that was passed called Tribal History shared history 348 01:02:00.180 --> 01:02:09.279 WLWV Board Room: where the law directed ode, the Department of Education and Schools, to make sure that our curriculum included 349 01:02:09.300 --> 01:02:30.139 WLWV Board Room: the tribal history and shared history of native, American, and indigenous tribes. And so some specific lesson plans were created then over the years, and teachers now are implementing those lesson plans to make sure that those standards are updated and that there's accurate information being taught. 350 01:02:30.270 --> 01:02:33.040 WLWV Board Room: And you can see kind of that last sentence there. 351 01:02:33.330 --> 01:03:01.899 WLWV Board Room: The curriculum has a focus on place, presence, perspective, political nationhood, power, and partnerships. So I think, while we think about this month, and of course more will be coming forward that you'll hear in Media also be thinking about what schools are doing in light of that. And I'm really proud of that Senate bill that was passed, and also the implications that it means for our students to have more informed and quality instruction in the classroom. 352 01:03:02.530 --> 01:03:25.780 WLWV Board Room: And then I'm gonna send you board members a link to this beautiful Mini documentary video that was created in partnership with Clackamus, Esd. Some of the schools in North Clackamus and then some film producers. That is entitled Culture and Connection and Intersection of Indigenous Excellence. And you'll see in there some of the schools in Clackamas County. 353 01:03:25.780 --> 01:03:33.570 WLWV Board Room: and it showcases the cultural celebrations of both American Indian and Alaska native heritage. 354 01:03:33.820 --> 01:04:00.800 WLWV Board Room: It's a beautiful short video. I think it's about 9 min produced locally through a grant through Ode and then to think about it being actually depicted here in Clackamas County makes it even more connected for us, and really appreciative of the leadership at Clackamas, Esd. In putting something like this together that can now be shown in classrooms. But also as another way to build awareness around native American heritage. 355 01:04:00.930 --> 01:04:09.240 WLWV Board Room: So I'll be sending you that link. So you can watch that video. This, the picture is just a little snapshot of a scene from the video. 356 01:04:11.900 --> 01:04:28.780 WLWV Board Room: Well, we've heard a lot about the events in October, and I was exhausted after hearing our 3 high school students because a lot has been happening. Some of these are redundant, so I'll just go through them quickly. You can see at the top picture there's the ribbon cutting ceremony for Riverside. 357 01:04:29.100 --> 01:04:45.129 WLWV Board Room: But I wanna thank our school Board members for the visits that they've made to their to their schools. I know we've got a couple more that are still on the books that are gonna happen in the next week or so. It's an extraordinary amount of time that you spend at least 2 h in each of those schools 358 01:04:45.130 --> 01:05:08.129 WLWV Board Room: listening so deeply and carefully to principals and the leaders as they share their work plans and their data and their goals, and walking around and interacting with teachers and students in a student panel, and each one of those ones that I joined with you. I just saw how present each of you were, how engaged you were with the staff and the students, and fully committed to that time with them. So thank you so much. 359 01:05:08.440 --> 01:05:35.299 WLWV Board Room: We did have those 2 dedications. We also had our first of our quarterly meetings with our first responder partners, where we talk about safety in the district, but we also talk about. We talk through scenarios of what we would do in certain situations, and how we would respond with safety for students. So it's a great way for all of us to practice, and then we also sometimes talk about real events that have happened, and debrief those 360 01:05:35.850 --> 01:05:52.730 WLWV Board Room: I was excited about attending the Cosa Special Education Conference this year, because we had some staff presenting, and in particular a few of our staff were getting their doctorate. Degrees! They were able to present some of their research and it was exciting to to hear those presentations. 361 01:05:53.450 --> 01:06:12.340 WLWV Board Room: It seems like a long time ago, but we actually had K. 8 school conferences in October, where parents came to school and met their children's teachers and heard about how their students are doing so far. At the start of school, and what roles and aspirations they have in setting up those relationships. 362 01:06:12.920 --> 01:06:37.859 WLWV Board Room: Lot of professional development that's happening now that we're into October. We kick off a lot of that. Those learning opportunities for our staff 2 that I wanted to highlight are the aspiring Leaders Academy that we've gotten going this year. This is for teachers who want to consider other possible next steps for themselves in terms of leadership, whether it's leadership from the classroom lens 363 01:06:38.110 --> 01:06:55.730 WLWV Board Room: and actions or leadership in terms of administration, either at a school district or at a department of education level. It's an opportunity to go through a series of workshops together, do some self reflecting and create some next steps for themselves. 364 01:06:56.310 --> 01:07:21.670 WLWV Board Room: And then our teaching with purpose class is led by Doctor Prior. But it's really actually led by our teacher leaders who have been in the district for a number of years, and they facilitate these sessions, which is really about onboarding new teachers to the district around district goals and vision and some of the initiatives in the district. And so it's 365 01:07:22.260 --> 01:07:31.270 WLWV Board Room: established teachers in the district, spending time with new teachers in the district, bringing them into the philosophy and the pedagogy of the district. 366 01:07:31.970 --> 01:07:59.720 WLWV Board Room: And then, lastly, it was an exciting and buzz filled space in this room a few weeks ago, and I wanna thank Director Sloop for attending. We had all of the leaders of our K. 8 Pta. Meetings in the room where they got to network with each other. We also talked about or got input from them around literacy and math and social emotional learning for their own children as well as hearing some strategies from principals, and these are quarterly meetings that we're looking forward to 367 01:07:59.720 --> 01:08:03.470 WLWV Board Room: having on a regular basis last year was the first year that we did this. 368 01:08:03.470 --> 01:08:14.870 WLWV Board Room: And we're continuing it this year. Great for Pta leaders. And I say, Pta, generically. Some are Pto or ptsos but these parent organizations that partner with us 369 01:08:14.890 --> 01:08:33.439 WLWV Board Room: to network together, but then also to engage in these standards around, what does it mean to support student success? And it's really more than just fundraising beyond the bake sale idea about really engaging around student academic progress, monitoring the progress and engaged in those conversations as well. 370 01:08:36.069 --> 01:08:47.989 WLWV Board Room: Every month I give you an update on how our literacy renewal process is going, and our adoption with K. 5 literacy. So these slides should look familiar each month. 371 01:08:48.260 --> 01:08:49.499 WLWV Board Room: we're in the 372 01:08:49.600 --> 01:09:04.950 WLWV Board Room: the middle of our renewal this year. Work we did last year to queue up here we are this year, which will include adopting new curriculum materials, and then we never leave it after that. Then there's always training and follow up that that follows a renewal year 373 01:09:05.200 --> 01:09:06.340 WLWV Board Room: next slide. 374 01:09:06.990 --> 01:09:18.450 WLWV Board Room: So in our literacy renewal process with our adoption team, this is where we are right now. We're in this section where we have formulated our adoption team and they are meeting now on a regular basis. 375 01:09:18.630 --> 01:09:26.930 WLWV Board Room: And there will be times when parents will provide input into the selection of the curriculum next slide. 376 01:09:27.270 --> 01:09:47.710 WLWV Board Room: This is again a familiar slide. I show it every month. This. This is the kind of work our Literacy adoption team will be doing. They'll be doing, looking at research. They'll be examining reading data. They'll be looking at the Oregon rubrics for evaluating materials, going back and forth to their schools to get feedback from their colleagues. 377 01:09:47.979 --> 01:10:00.019 WLWV Board Room: And then, as samples of materials arrive, they'll be evaluating those samples, interviewing the publishers, collecting information from parents about what they'd like to see in curriculum materials. 378 01:10:00.030 --> 01:10:13.559 WLWV Board Room: And then one of their fact, one of their last steps will be to bring before you the School Board their final recommendation. After all this work has been done, and again, remember, that will happen around February 379 01:10:15.160 --> 01:10:21.230 WLWV Board Room: last month I gave you each a folder and told you you'd be getting I 380 01:10:21.580 --> 01:10:28.690 WLWV Board Room: some dipping into some of what's happening with that adoption team last month I gave you a folder inside the folder. 381 01:10:28.730 --> 01:10:47.139 WLWV Board Room: was the Powerpoint from the first session with the adoption team. So if you want to know what the K. 5 adoption team is doing. You can read these Powerpoints. You have your one from last month. This is the one from October, and you can kind of see through the Powerpoint what the group worked on? 382 01:10:47.430 --> 01:10:58.160 WLWV Board Room: That they began to create this summary around. What are we looking for in high quality curriculum materials, and comparing it to the Ode rubric 383 01:10:58.610 --> 01:11:04.399 WLWV Board Room: and then looking at the approved list from ode. 384 01:11:04.500 --> 01:11:07.900 WLWV Board Room: and seeing which materials might fall on that list. 385 01:11:08.300 --> 01:11:14.800 WLWV Board Room: and then giving a rationale. For which of those programs they believe would be 386 01:11:14.890 --> 01:11:19.830 WLWV Board Room: strong ones for our school district and getting kind of a consensus on this short list. 387 01:11:19.900 --> 01:11:22.510 WLWV Board Room: So next slide. This just kind of 388 01:11:22.700 --> 01:11:24.679 WLWV Board Room: summarizes what I just said. 389 01:11:24.850 --> 01:11:31.380 WLWV Board Room: they're starting to look now at the various curriculum programs looking at the publishers. Websites. 390 01:11:31.590 --> 01:11:34.470 WLWV Board Room: Holding those up alongside 391 01:11:34.600 --> 01:11:53.390 WLWV Board Room: this list of high quality look fors that they've identified as well as the ode rubric. And right now some of those programs are being shipped over, samples of them being delivered so that teachers can see not just them on the website, but actually begin to pull out materials and look at these samples. 392 01:11:54.920 --> 01:11:57.790 WLWV Board Room: Can we just go back? Yeah. 393 01:11:58.240 --> 01:12:17.689 WLWV Board Room: so that's that's where we are. There's several meetings still, just as a reminder. I'll keep giving you every month and update about how this renewal process is going. And if any board member feels like they need more details. And what I'm giving this month feel free to reach out, and I can 394 01:12:17.820 --> 01:12:24.260 WLWV Board Room: share more the details with you. So these meetings don't go super long with these updates. 395 01:12:25.230 --> 01:12:32.129 WLWV Board Room: And then, lastly, we have put together a Fentanyl awareness campaign for this year. 396 01:12:32.290 --> 01:12:35.180 WLWV Board Room: We know that. 397 01:12:35.360 --> 01:12:36.530 WLWV Board Room: As a 398 01:12:36.540 --> 01:12:58.959 WLWV Board Room: director sloop mentioned. There's a lot that goes into keeping our young children feeling safe and healthy and well when she talked about the awareness for for students this month, we know that there's a lot around supporting students who are experiencing houselessness. And we know that there's a lot going on in our nation and globally around opioids and addiction. 399 01:12:59.030 --> 01:13:14.269 WLWV Board Room: And it's really important that we have some specific information about Fentanyl in particular, because it is on the rise, not just in Oregon, but across the nation. I want to thank again director, sloop for all of her work in the State of Oregon. 400 01:13:14.300 --> 01:13:33.970 WLWV Board Room: in her profession, and her commitment, not just as a School Board member for us, but across the State, around Narcan, and some policy work around access to that for school districts and for communities. So we put together a timeline for this campaign. 401 01:13:34.230 --> 01:13:48.659 WLWV Board Room: This phrase one pill can kill is actually a theme that's being used nationally, and the Oregon health authority has developed a toolkit and a lot of resources for school districts to use. 402 01:13:48.690 --> 01:14:01.930 WLWV Board Room: In October, this last month we launched our own district web page. I wanna thank communication director, Andrew Kilstrom, for getting that web page up and running. It has resources and information on it, accurate information 403 01:14:01.960 --> 01:14:08.120 WLWV Board Room: about Fentanyl, and then each month there will be a specific focus. 404 01:14:08.170 --> 01:14:35.850 WLWV Board Room: That will be getting out in the district newsletters and school newsletters. To help parents find resources and information. And you could just see some samples there on on the slide in January. Our district will host a Fentanyl awareness and information session for the community. So we'll have some folks with us who are experts around addiction and resources joining us for that. 405 01:14:35.850 --> 01:14:46.449 WLWV Board Room: so that we can connect families to more information if they're interested. But this will go through September through May with those monthly messages and information. 406 01:14:46.530 --> 01:15:03.259 WLWV Board Room: just to let you know already in our high school health classes. We do talk about drug addiction and opioids. And so there are specific lessons that are also taught in school. But this is an information campaign that also extends to families in the community. 407 01:15:03.370 --> 01:15:13.810 WLWV Board Room: So kind of broadly kind of wrapping around, coming alongside the classes that are taught. and that wraps up my report for this month. Thank you. 408 01:15:15.240 --> 01:15:26.739 WLWV Board Room: Thank you. For that information. It always makes me sad that we have to have that conversation about kids and that type of drug use, but 409 01:15:27.720 --> 01:15:29.130 WLWV Board Room: is where he is. 410 01:15:31.480 --> 01:15:37.819 WLWV Board Room: We will move into the consent agenda, which requires board action. Do we have? Oh. 411 01:15:38.700 --> 01:15:43.269 WLWV Board Room: I move we approve the consent. Agenda. Thank you. Do you have a second? 412 01:15:47.310 --> 01:15:51.049 WLWV Board Room: Second. Okay. How are we? 413 01:15:51.500 --> 01:15:54.510 WLWV Board Room: And Director Douglas? 414 01:15:55.750 --> 01:15:57.170 WLWV Board Room: Director Schumacher? 415 01:15:58.170 --> 01:16:02.480 WLWV Board Room: Yes, director, sloop. Aye, chair, Taylor. Aye. 416 01:16:03.030 --> 01:16:04.220 WLWV Board Room: vista. What? 417 01:16:05.080 --> 01:16:08.890 WLWV Board Room: And direct Vidal. Yes, thank you. 418 01:16:10.070 --> 01:16:11.370 WLWV Board Room: That was a rough one. 419 01:16:14.340 --> 01:16:31.400 WLWV Board Room: Alright! We will move into everybody's favorite public comment. We normally run 2 different public comment sections. But tonight we only have 3 speakers. So we're just going to combine them 420 01:16:31.680 --> 01:16:37.420 WLWV Board Room: into one and and let everybody say what they have to say here in our first session. So 421 01:16:37.490 --> 01:16:40.290 I'll give you a couple of disclaimers. 422 01:16:40.340 --> 01:16:47.379 WLWV Board Room: First off we're excited to hear your voice. But just remember this is an opportunity for you to 423 01:16:47.420 --> 01:17:04.199 speak to the board and not use this platform as a podium to broadcast out to a broader audience. We asked that your kind? We asked, that you refrain from booing and clapping, and some of those things most of you in this room have done this 424 01:17:04.330 --> 01:17:11.119 WLWV Board Room: multiple times, so I don't think that I need to go any further. But I will start 425 01:17:11.390 --> 01:17:13.769 with our first 426 01:17:14.130 --> 01:17:19.580 WLWV Board Room: speaker, which is Karen Salvetti. Would you like to come forward. 427 01:17:31.190 --> 01:17:37.320 WLWV Board Room: I appreciate the opportunity to jump to the front as I'm a softball taxi tonight. 428 01:17:37.650 --> 01:17:43.960 WLWV Board Room: Well, my name is Karen Salvetti, and I applied for the open position on the District Budget Committee. 429 01:17:44.060 --> 01:17:53.399 WLWV Board Room: I will be having surgery in late November, and will not be able to attend the December meeting, where candidates will be discussed. So I wanted to introduce myself to you tonight. 430 01:17:53.450 --> 01:18:03.529 WLWV Board Room: I am a newer resident to Westland, moving here in August of 2022. I have been an active attendee here at board meetings and in my daughter's school, Rosemont Ridge. 431 01:18:03.570 --> 01:18:15.509 WLWV Board Room: I have experience with budgeting and accounting, and both my work, experience and my volunteer positions. I have spent over 12 years being part of Ptas. In all of my children's elementary middle, and high schools. 432 01:18:15.600 --> 01:18:28.099 WLWV Board Room: I served as treasurer creating budgets. Each year I started the Middle School Pta in Malala, as when my older 2 students went in there was no parent organization, so I started that from the ground up 433 01:18:28.460 --> 01:18:35.760 WLWV Board Room: I was blessed to serve as wrestling mom for my son's senior year and work closely with the Boosters Club for our wrestling budget. 434 01:18:36.100 --> 01:18:46.860 WLWV Board Room: I volunteered in multiple leadership roles within our local community church overseeing women's ministry, budgets and events as well as our international mission teams traveling to Guatemala multiple times. 435 01:18:47.100 --> 01:18:52.390 WLWV Board Room: I have served on the Budget Committee for our local youth sports in Malala before we moved here to Westland. 436 01:18:52.890 --> 01:19:05.199 WLWV Board Room: In my work experience, I've been in accounting role for the past 12 years as well. I served as the full charge bookkeeper for our local community church, where I oversaw the budget and all financials for 437 01:19:05.400 --> 01:19:10.180 WLWV Board Room: our audit and the budgeting of over 1 million dollars. 438 01:19:10.330 --> 01:19:22.359 WLWV Board Room: I work closely with the auditor each year, and ensuring our books were correct with proper policies and procedures. I currently work for a commercial real estate company here in Lake Oswego, with over 80 properties around the Us. 439 01:19:22.620 --> 01:19:26.230 WLWV Board Room: I have provided my resume for you tonight. 440 01:19:26.390 --> 01:19:35.530 WLWV Board Room: so that you could see my experience. I have a passion to serve in my children's school lives. My 2 older children are sophomores in college go ducks. 441 01:19:35.570 --> 01:19:52.800 WLWV Board Room: and my youngest is in seventh grade. I have always cultivated strong relationships with teachers and school district staff, as my children spend so many hours in the classrooms and extracurricular activities. My gifting is with numbers, and to serve the community and my children in this way would fill my heart. 442 01:19:52.840 --> 01:20:12.470 WLWV Board Room: I know we cannot engage tonight in conversation, but if you have any questions for me, or like to chat or get to know each other, please call or email me my information on my resume. And that's all I have to introduce myself tonight. I'm sorry I will miss the December meeting, but I hope that I'm on your thoughts for voting time. Thank you. 443 01:20:19.980 --> 01:20:24.620 WLWV Board Room: Up next I have 444 01:20:26.430 --> 01:20:31.449 WLWV Board Room: Brad. I believe it is Wapki Wopki. 445 01:20:31.460 --> 01:20:35.209 WLWV Board Room: I know I'm gonna mess that up so you can correct me when you get up 446 01:20:35.960 --> 01:20:37.450 WLWV Board Room: and I apologize. 447 01:20:38.550 --> 01:20:44.280 WLWV Board Room: Thanks. Let me speak today. My name is Brad Webb Key, and I have 2 daughters in the district, a tenth grader at Wesleyan. 448 01:20:44.420 --> 01:20:46.300 WLWV Board Room: and eighth grader at Athy Creek. 449 01:20:46.500 --> 01:20:51.799 WLWV Board Room: When my older daughter went through Athe Creek she was on the regular track for Math Addison was supposed to be 450 01:20:51.830 --> 01:20:54.720 WLWV Board Room: taking the second half of algebra one as an eighth grader. 451 01:20:54.870 --> 01:21:12.009 WLWV Board Room: I was concerned when our teacher only covered linear equations, systems, and some exponents. Addison's class did not cover any factory and quadratics, including difference of squares, factoring by grouping and other special cases. Her class also did not solve quadratics by graphing, taking square roots, completing square or the quadratic formula. 452 01:21:12.320 --> 01:21:26.630 WLWV Board Room: They also skipped graphing and properties of quadratic functions. although this disappointed me greatly. She went on to geometry in high school and found success. Since the high school math teachers decided to teach geometry, incorporating only pre algebra level equation solving into the curriculum. 453 01:21:27.420 --> 01:21:41.500 WLWV Board Room: This year Addison's in Advanced Algebra. She is seeing for the first time many concepts skipped in eighth grade as review problems in her current class. Why, Pierre, that went to Rosemont Ridge thought it was review since their eighth grade math teachers taught the material in eighth grade. 454 01:21:42.410 --> 01:21:49.540 WLWV Board Room: It's a good thing that I'm a high school math teacher, so I can teach her concepts. Her eighth grade. Teacher did not fill in her gaps. 455 01:21:50.330 --> 01:22:03.880 WLWV Board Room: Now, my younger daughter, Ellie, is currently in eighth grade or Ethi Creek. Last year, in seventh grade she learned the first half of algebra, one as a kid on the regular track this year. She's supposed to be doing the second half of algebra one as an eighth grader. 456 01:22:04.170 --> 01:22:08.600 WLWV Board Room: I noticed the topics her teacher covers seem like pre-algebra level and eighth grade level. 457 01:22:08.910 --> 01:22:24.470 WLWV Board Room: I contacted contacted her teacher about what was being taught this year, and she said that she was teaching eighth grade standards from the new math curriculum from ode. The question I'm having a hard time getting an answer to from administration after meeting with administration about 12 days ago 458 01:22:24.700 --> 01:22:29.969 WLWV Board Room: is, if eighth graders at the creek are supposed to be learning the second semester of algebra one. 459 01:22:30.140 --> 01:22:35.419 WLWV Board Room: why are eighth grade students being taught instead taught? Instead of being 460 01:22:35.620 --> 01:22:46.839 WLWV Board Room: eighth grade standards instead of the second half of algebra, one standards is anyone in the district making sure the same content is being taught by eighth grade math features at Gradient and Rosemont. 461 01:22:47.020 --> 01:22:52.670 WLWV Board Room: It also shocks me that right after an adoption year, with all the curriculum meetings that take place. 462 01:22:52.820 --> 01:23:06.779 WLWV Board Room: time and resources spent and sequencing, discuss to decide what standards are going to be taught. When that eighth grade teachers at Ethi Creek are not teaching what the district believes that they are teaching on your middle school math, flow chart. 463 01:23:07.300 --> 01:23:10.889 WLWV Board Room: Now the flow chart I got said eighth graders are supposed to be. 464 01:23:11.180 --> 01:23:18.270 WLWV Board Room: you know second half of algebra one I know that we are already quartering the school year, but I would appreciate this being addressed 465 01:23:18.320 --> 01:23:29.580 WLWV Board Room: while there's still time to teach second half of algebra, one to the eighth graders on the regular track. Eighth graders need this to help them find success past geometry in high school. Thank you. 466 01:23:38.890 --> 01:23:42.000 WLWV Board Room: That actually wraps up our 467 01:23:42.450 --> 01:23:50.770 WLWV Board Room: list. Karen was on twice, so no worries. So that will conclude 468 01:23:51.020 --> 01:23:52.050 WLWV Board Room: our 469 01:23:55.120 --> 01:23:57.950 WLWV Board Room: section on public comments. 470 01:23:58.670 --> 01:24:03.490 WLWV Board Room: And now we get to get into board business, and 471 01:24:03.760 --> 01:24:07.510 WLWV Board Room: I'm gonna have Mr. Pat Mcguff 472 01:24:07.850 --> 01:24:14.480 WLWV Board Room: come forward and take it through with the department of oh, oh, okay, I saw remote. 473 01:24:18.810 --> 01:24:19.510 WLWV Board Room: I'm 474 01:24:19.630 --> 01:24:37.280 WLWV Board Room: good evening Board. Happy to be here this evening with you. We've got Kim Jordan here, presenting for the long range planning Committee on the Quarterly report for the bond program, so I'll allow Kim to take that over. But I'll be standing by in case there's any questions I may need to help with. Thank you. 475 01:24:40.820 --> 01:24:42.240 WLWV Board Room: Hi, Hi, Kim. 476 01:24:42.980 --> 01:24:49.469 WLWV Board Room: thanks for having me. I'm here to report on the quarter 3 meeting of the Bond Oversight 477 01:24:49.910 --> 01:25:01.880 WLWV Board Room: Committee. We met. On October eighteenth we met at Athen Creek, which is so fun. I had seen it before, but just to look at it and sit in the space and and enjoy 478 01:25:02.020 --> 01:25:18.790 WLWV Board Room: well after hours. There were also people working and and doing last minute touches, but but anyway, it was great, so it made me start to think about how far we've come. So I was thinking back when I was writing my report. We passed the bond in November of 2,019. 479 01:25:18.840 --> 01:25:44.459 WLWV Board Room: So I started thinking, oh, I'm gonna talk about all the things that have happened since November of 2,019. So I went through. And I said, You know, top 10 things that happened in 2020 and 2021. And and I decided I'm not gonna do that because that's way, too depressing. All of those things we all live through. We all know about that. We don't need to go back, but I think it was worth mentioning, anyway, because that we were able to 480 01:25:45.260 --> 01:25:48.050 WLWV Board Room: get through some of those really big projects 481 01:25:48.130 --> 01:26:05.829 WLWV Board Room: despite all of those things. I know we've thanks, Staff, and we recognize them in a in a previous meeting. But again, I just wanna say that what the staff did and how they pulled these projects through those big world events. Is something to really be proud of the job to your team. 482 01:26:06.390 --> 01:26:18.660 WLWV Board Room: So I'll just run through the projects quickly. We're certainly not done with the bond oversight, but we are coming up on the tail end. So the next time that I see you 483 01:26:18.680 --> 01:26:20.740 WLWV Board Room: probably be shorter each time 484 01:26:21.090 --> 01:26:32.089 WLWV Board Room: until, or if or when we decide to do another bond, and they know you just cannot get rid of me. I don't think so. Starting with the financials. 485 01:26:32.320 --> 01:26:36.379 WLWV Board Room: and you have this packet. But, Kurt, do you have the packet for the 486 01:26:38.910 --> 01:27:00.570 WLWV Board Room: no? Okay. You have the packet. But on the first page. It talks about how I'm sorry I have a little bit of a cold. It does make it seem like I'm about to cry, but it's just like catching my throat. I have a cold 92% of our bond money has been committed. So we're in the home stretch there with that. And there's a couple line of on your financial page about 487 01:27:01.230 --> 01:27:14.730 WLWV Board Room: money being spent at Wilsonville and Riverside High School. Those are projects that were problems in the existing building that were exposed as they were doing the work. So those are 2 notes that were put in there on the financials. 488 01:27:15.470 --> 01:27:25.980 WLWV Board Room: Going forward to the Wilsonville project that was on page 3. The project will be closed out by the end of this calendar year. Oh, here we go! Yay! 489 01:27:27.040 --> 01:27:29.480 WLWV Board Room: So this is the Financials page. 490 01:27:36.800 --> 01:27:39.640 WLWV Board Room: I'll wait for him to catch up to second. Yay, thank you. 491 01:27:40.750 --> 01:27:56.089 WLWV Board Room: So everything's looking really good on there, and like I said, 92 of the bond money has been committed. The uncommitted. We've still obviously got one more big project at Frog Pond. So that's our our last thing, and I'll talk about that in a second 492 01:27:56.230 --> 01:28:11.669 WLWV Board Room: and then going forward to the third page about Wilsonville High School. So like I said, we're going to close out that project at the end of the calendar year. This year almost all the spaces are being used, and a week from today is the dedication for that. 493 01:28:14.720 --> 01:28:38.209 WLWV Board Room: So that is obviously the auditorium. And there's just like a few couple of last minute things that are happening for that for Avy Creek. We've talked about that a lot. Obviously, you've all been there. The majority of the schools open and being used, including that beautiful main gym the most recent thing completed, and the work on the roundabout, if you've gone that way, is 494 01:28:38.210 --> 01:28:53.220 WLWV Board Room: started. Yay, for all the neighbors. But is it exciting. And for now, if you're not familiar, they're just working on the sides of the road is not closed or impacting school. Opening your closings at all for for right now. So that's 495 01:28:53.930 --> 01:29:07.890 WLWV Board Room: good for all of us. Riverside High School. The project is done. It's in close out right now. So that's all good news. So again, those 3 projects done schools opened on time. 496 01:29:07.990 --> 01:29:10.449 WLWV Board Room: That's a pretty big deal. It's pretty exciting. 497 01:29:10.580 --> 01:29:17.350 WLWV Board Room: Going forward. Yep, those are all the pictures from that. Thank you. And then Frog Pond. So 498 01:29:17.610 --> 01:29:22.089 WLWV Board Room: Frog Pond, this school is set to open in the fall of 2025. 499 01:29:22.120 --> 01:29:50.799 WLWV Board Room: So there's a lot of time left. In that project. However, the foundations have been done. The framing is done. The design is really beautiful. One story project that will kind of blend right into that neighborhood. So it's a lower profile school. So it's gonna be really nice for the people who attend right around that school. The general contractor is someone known to us, the same same company that did the Athy Creek project 500 01:29:50.860 --> 01:29:56.789 WLWV Board Room: so, and people that we know to be good, reliable, and easy to work with. 501 01:29:57.590 --> 01:30:05.820 WLWV Board Room: and then skipping forward a little bit to the facility improvements on the very last page of your packet. 502 01:30:05.970 --> 01:30:13.889 WLWV Board Room: you can see that there's 4 projects left that are slated for work in the summer of 2,024, 503 01:30:14.120 --> 01:30:27.169 WLWV Board Room: and the secure entries that were planned under this bond are done, and there's just one remaining safety. Item, that's being worked out, and that is 504 01:30:27.340 --> 01:30:30.790 WLWV Board Room: one of the ones that's listed to be worked on this summer. 505 01:30:31.760 --> 01:30:35.730 WLWV Board Room: Otherwise everything's looking real good. 506 01:30:36.170 --> 01:30:38.810 WLWV Board Room: Anybody have any questions for me? 507 01:30:40.060 --> 01:30:42.000 WLWV Board Room: Did I get it all? Okay? 508 01:30:42.730 --> 01:30:44.540 WLWV Board Room: Alright, thank you. Thanks for having me. 509 01:30:45.740 --> 01:30:48.140 WLWV Board Room: Okay. Chair Taylor. 510 01:30:49.120 --> 01:31:12.460 WLWV Board Room: Kim, I just wanna thank you again for serving on the long range planning committee. You've been such a steadfast, committed community member and then coming and giving these reports. Means you have to pay attention at the meetings. But we know it's just such a passion and curiosity and commitment of yours, and you know the building so well. You ask a lot of great questions. 511 01:31:12.460 --> 01:31:30.669 WLWV Board Room: and I also wanna appreciate your mentorship of the new members on the Long Reach planning committee. Because you've been there for a while, and your institutional knowledge and your experience is so invaluable, especially as we navigate new things ahead. So thank you for your service and your time. Appreciate you so much. 512 01:31:31.830 --> 01:31:32.980 WLWV Board Room: Thank you. 513 01:31:34.310 --> 01:31:35.390 WLWV Board Room: Anyone else. 514 01:31:39.710 --> 01:31:42.309 WLWV Board Room: Where am I at? 515 01:31:44.770 --> 01:31:45.920 Right? 516 01:31:49.160 --> 01:32:09.990 WLWV Board Room: Yes, Pat's up. There you are now it's my turn now. It's your turn. Okay. David. What is love hearing from you? You just heard from Kim. Ken has our the longest tenure on our long range planning committee of any citizen member. 517 01:32:10.210 --> 01:32:14.530 WLWV Board Room: and she brings great historical perspective 518 01:32:14.660 --> 01:32:24.520 WLWV Board Room: guidance, and she has been a leader through the the whole process with the long range planning committee. 519 01:32:24.990 --> 01:32:31.640 WLWV Board Room: She mentioned that the focus has been on the Bond Oversight Committee, because we've had an active bond 520 01:32:32.050 --> 01:32:34.310 as that winds down, though. 521 01:32:34.470 --> 01:32:42.759 WLWV Board Room: It does fulfill the promises that were made in our long-range facilities. Plan 522 01:32:42.880 --> 01:32:49.030 WLWV Board Room: we. This is our long range facilities. Plan. By the way, if you've not seen it. 523 01:32:49.170 --> 01:33:02.469 WLWV Board Room: This is the work of the committee that puts this together, and it is one of the most in-depth comprehensive documents that we collectively have. 524 01:33:02.760 --> 01:33:06.840 WLWV Board Room: It is the long range planning committee 525 01:33:06.930 --> 01:33:11.470 WLWV Board Room: has been a great committee tool 526 01:33:11.810 --> 01:33:14.380 WLWV Board Room: for the Board 527 01:33:14.390 --> 01:33:19.570 WLWV Board Room: to provide guidance for our long-range visions 528 01:33:20.150 --> 01:33:21.540 WLWV Board Room: and 529 01:33:21.930 --> 01:33:34.029 WLWV Board Room: the plan. It does provide the community with the confidence that we have a well vetted process. for when we want to go to them and ask them 530 01:33:34.090 --> 01:33:35.350 to support 531 01:33:35.380 --> 01:33:41.039 WLWV Board Room: either building or upgrading or maintaining our school facilities. 532 01:33:41.340 --> 01:33:43.089 the original plan 533 01:33:43.120 --> 01:33:47.490 WLWV Board Room: was about this thick in 90 96, 534 01:33:47.590 --> 01:33:57.600 WLWV Board Room: and it's been updated numerous times 4,005, 2,014. And this is what it looks like in 2,019 535 01:33:57.970 --> 01:34:00.959 WLWV Board Room: and it was 536 01:34:01.690 --> 01:34:09.359 WLWV Board Room: if we were the the West. Lynn Wilsonville School district was the first school district in Oregon to develop one. 537 01:34:09.720 --> 01:34:15.700 WLWV Board Room: Subsequently it did become law. and or S. 538 01:34:17.080 --> 01:34:24.049 WLWV Board Room: 1, 95 dot. 1, 10 requires school districts to have a plan that's 539 01:34:24.300 --> 01:34:27.010 WLWV Board Room: valid. For 10 years, however. 540 01:34:28.340 --> 01:34:37.119 WLWV Board Room: the intent of that was that if school districts did not make any progress, it was still valid. For 10 years 541 01:34:37.450 --> 01:34:45.149 WLWV Board Room: we have fulfilled all, almost all of the promises in 5 years. 542 01:34:45.400 --> 01:34:49.110 WLWV Board Room: And so our plan is effectively out of date. 543 01:34:49.440 --> 01:34:53.630 WLWV Board Room: It is now time to 544 01:34:53.770 --> 01:35:08.039 WLWV Board Room: update that plan. and there is a very again comprehensive and detailed process to that. That next slide begins with the framework for excellence. 545 01:35:08.080 --> 01:35:10.479 WLWV Board Room: and that simply is to 546 01:35:10.630 --> 01:35:12.810 WLWV Board Room: make sure that 547 01:35:13.250 --> 01:35:24.080 WLWV Board Room: our plan reflects your vision. the Board's vision, the district's values, themes and the educational needs for planning facilities 548 01:35:24.240 --> 01:35:26.299 WLWV Board Room: and maintenance decisions. 549 01:35:27.480 --> 01:35:37.860 WLWV Board Room: Long range planning committee will evaluate all of the district plans to confirm. They're still in alignment with the Board's commitment to excellence. 550 01:35:38.120 --> 01:35:43.009 WLWV Board Room: and significantly enhance the overall quality of our education. 551 01:35:43.600 --> 01:35:56.529 WLWV Board Room: In this plan in the 2,019 plan. Some of the things that were identified were early childhood programs, inclusive services. world languages, health and wellness. 552 01:35:56.670 --> 01:35:57.700 WLWV Board Room: Stem. 553 01:35:58.030 --> 01:36:01.079 WLWV Board Room: CET. 554 01:36:01.650 --> 01:36:04.020 WLWV Board Room: And there's a list there. 555 01:36:04.510 --> 01:36:14.409 WLWV Board Room: This one may include additional visions that you may have, and I'll just suggest a few safe and welcoming schools has been a theme that we've 556 01:36:14.450 --> 01:36:17.369 WLWV Board Room: had throughout this bond 557 01:36:17.900 --> 01:36:32.730 WLWV Board Room: inclusive facilities. What I mean by that all of our facilities are Ada compliant, but are they truly inclusive? Are our playgrounds inclusive? Our locker rooms, our restrooms, are all of our facilities. Are they truly inclusive? 558 01:36:33.590 --> 01:36:39.359 WLWV Board Room: And then, of course, athletic and recreational facilities? Do they need to be 559 01:36:40.070 --> 01:36:41.799 WLWV Board Room: updated refreshed. 560 01:36:41.910 --> 01:36:45.409 WLWV Board Room: turf fields do wear out. 561 01:36:45.590 --> 01:36:48.500 WLWV Board Room: Do they need replacement 562 01:36:50.150 --> 01:36:51.740 WLWV Board Room: next slide if you would. 563 01:36:53.010 --> 01:36:59.929 WLWV Board Room: And then the second component that the long range planning committee takes into account are the current 564 01:37:00.010 --> 01:37:01.650 WLWV Board Room: school facilities. 565 01:37:02.100 --> 01:37:12.459 WLWV Board Room: What is the existing capacity, the potential for growth, the educational trends and the factors that could impact future facilities needs. 566 01:37:13.100 --> 01:37:20.399 WLWV Board Room: They will examine the current learning capacity. And what that means is how many students 567 01:37:21.110 --> 01:37:25.550 WLWV Board Room: truly can be housed in any one school facility 568 01:37:26.350 --> 01:37:28.290 WLWV Board Room: by teaching stations. 569 01:37:28.340 --> 01:37:31.579 WLWV Board Room: all facilities are not equal. 570 01:37:32.240 --> 01:37:43.080 WLWV Board Room: They have nuances and idiosyncrasies to each one, that it may not be a identical number at each primary school based on the architecture of the building. 571 01:37:43.620 --> 01:38:01.779 WLWV Board Room: They'll examine that the potential capacity impacts of a school program. For instance. if we decide to have more maker spaces or expand world languages to more schools. What would that do to classroom capacity 572 01:38:01.880 --> 01:38:04.069 WLWV Board Room: in each individual school. 573 01:38:05.550 --> 01:38:09.309 WLWV Board Room: the potential bonding capacity? There's an entire 574 01:38:09.540 --> 01:38:15.069 WLWV Board Room: process for knowing when our current bonds 575 01:38:15.380 --> 01:38:20.720 WLWV Board Room: dating way back. drop off. That gives us more capacity 576 01:38:20.750 --> 01:38:31.040 WLWV Board Room: to perhaps put forward another bond to the voters, and still stay under our commitment of less than $3 per 1,000. 577 01:38:32.340 --> 01:38:37.859 WLWV Board Room: They'll look at the future projected and enrollment for a 10 year period. 578 01:38:38.470 --> 01:38:40.979 WLWV Board Room: Candidly, we have one now. 579 01:38:41.000 --> 01:38:44.499 WLWV Board Room: but it is really 580 01:38:44.970 --> 01:38:48.130 WLWV Board Room: no longer relevant, no longer valid. 581 01:38:48.310 --> 01:38:50.970 WLWV Board Room: based on what happened during covid 582 01:38:51.420 --> 01:38:55.090 WLWV Board Room: we do need a new 583 01:38:55.170 --> 01:38:59.379 WLWV Board Room: enrollment projection performed by professionals 584 01:39:01.520 --> 01:39:13.209 WLWV Board Room: that we will look into the development within the existing urban growth boundary. We all know that there is development happening down in Wilsonville around Frog Pond. 585 01:39:13.530 --> 01:39:25.560 WLWV Board Room: but the law has changed to allow infill construction for multifamily housing that can be happening even in West Lynn. and finding out what that impact could be 586 01:39:25.590 --> 01:39:28.720 WLWV Board Room: to enrollment and school capacities. 587 01:39:28.960 --> 01:39:40.559 WLWV Board Room: We'll also talk with the leaders. Around what is the projected timeline to perhaps bring new land into the urban growth boundary from the reserves. 588 01:39:40.840 --> 01:39:47.400 WLWV Board Room: We meet with city and county and metro leaders, our own 589 01:39:47.430 --> 01:39:57.440 WLWV Board Room: our own consultants. And we just talk what is going to happen in 5, 1020 years 590 01:39:57.940 --> 01:40:09.860 WLWV Board Room: that can help us. Forecasting growth for greater than 10 years. Now, when you get out longer than 10 years, that gets a little harder to predict. 591 01:40:10.110 --> 01:40:14.650 WLWV Board Room: But at least we'll have a general sense of 592 01:40:14.770 --> 01:40:22.539 WLWV Board Room: areas that will come into the urban growth boundary areas that could and that can infect 593 01:40:23.280 --> 01:40:35.380 WLWV Board Room: what our strategy is for potential land acquisitions in the future. Should we purchase land in this area over that area based on what the projected growth is. 594 01:40:36.420 --> 01:40:41.270 WLWV Board Room: and the last are the capital improvements next slide. 595 01:40:42.360 --> 01:40:55.660 WLWV Board Room: And what that does it. It takes all of this information and recommended capital project improvement list, and it collects it all together, all at the same time. So 596 01:40:55.690 --> 01:41:00.330 WLWV Board Room: you will have the ability to set priorities 597 01:41:00.710 --> 01:41:05.259 WLWV Board Room: based on recommendations by the long range planning committee. 598 01:41:05.800 --> 01:41:17.439 WLWV Board Room: It also allows us to consolidate debt and have the most efficient use of bond funding. and it it's an opportunity 599 01:41:17.800 --> 01:41:26.370 WLWV Board Room: to for the district to communicate to county and city and other governmental leaders what we're doing, what our plans are. 600 01:41:26.390 --> 01:41:39.480 WLWV Board Room: One of the things that spurred. The very first long range plan was. We were talking to officials in the city of Wesley, and they were building like crazy then. 601 01:41:39.900 --> 01:41:45.920 WLWV Board Room: and they and we said, Well, what's your plan? And they turned around and said, What's yours? 602 01:41:45.980 --> 01:41:49.789 WLWV Board Room: We didn't have one. And it it finally 603 01:41:50.150 --> 01:41:56.070 WLWV Board Room: dawned on all government entities that we should plan together. And this is that opportunity. 604 01:41:57.080 --> 01:41:58.180 WLWV Board Room: So 605 01:41:58.900 --> 01:42:03.190 WLWV Board Room: tonight I'm here on behalf of the long Range planning committee 606 01:42:03.200 --> 01:42:06.200 WLWV Board Room: as an advisory committee 607 01:42:07.340 --> 01:42:12.339 WLWV Board Room: to the Board that they need direction to accomplish this task. 608 01:42:12.910 --> 01:42:20.699 WLWV Board Room: Long range planning committee is therefore recommending to the Board that the Board Commission, the long Range planning Committee 609 01:42:20.720 --> 01:42:29.649 WLWV Board Room: to perform a comprehensive update of the 2019 long range facilities plan. And there is a proposed motion. 610 01:42:31.680 --> 01:42:32.980 WLWV Board Room: Do we have a motion? 611 01:42:34.060 --> 01:42:39.949 WLWV Board Room: I move that the Board Commission, the long-range planning committee to update the district's long-range facilities plan. 612 01:42:41.110 --> 01:42:42.360 WLWV Board Room: I'll second 613 01:42:43.600 --> 01:42:46.959 WLWV Board Room: Director Douglas. I'm sorry 614 01:42:47.180 --> 01:42:50.619 or just discussion. I'm sorry. Yeah. 615 01:42:50.800 --> 01:42:53.790 WLWV Board Room: questions. Discussion. 616 01:42:55.790 --> 01:43:08.010 WLWV Board Room: I'm going to as your board liaison to the the planning committee. I was at that last meeting. I was a little surprised to learn that the process is for the committee to ask the Board to give the committee 617 01:43:08.600 --> 01:43:30.340 WLWV Board Room: permission to so thank you for asking us to ask you. I would. I would say that a really important point that folks made, and and Kim was part of that. Is that 5 years is a is a long time to hold on to a plan. 618 01:43:30.960 --> 01:43:40.440 WLWV Board Room: Things change as we know the last 5 years. Things change the way we teach changes the way facilities need to have some agility to handle that 619 01:43:40.870 --> 01:43:52.090 WLWV Board Room: makes it absolutely necessary that we, I think, and I'll be voting for this. I think it's absolutely necessary that we we look at another at at the next iteration of a plan. 620 01:43:55.570 --> 01:44:19.960 WLWV Board Room: I will also be supporting this and one thing that I think is important to remind folks is this is authorizing this committee to bring in the experts that really know how to do this work. The experts on future projection enrollment on potential growth, on trends in schools and educational programming. 621 01:44:19.960 --> 01:44:34.260 WLWV Board Room: So it's not just pat and remo spit balling about potential growth in the district, as I think some armchair urban planners in the region. Sometimes think but this is really based on the science of 622 01:44:34.260 --> 01:44:58.959 of planning, on how we grow, and then making sure that we have the facilities in the space to accommodate that growth. And so I know, as in past years, with folks like Kim on the committee and the staff that we have that they will staff this out and bring in the resources that are needed to do another plan. Update that will be as exceptional as our current plan. So 623 01:44:58.960 --> 01:45:08.500 I'm just wanted to make that clear, because this really is the start of a a, a big effort. And I'm just really pleased that we're able to kick things off tonight. So thank you. 624 01:45:10.270 --> 01:45:19.839 WLWV Board Room: I'll I'll just echo a little bit of what you said, too. In my last few years, or gosh, 2 and a half years on the board. 625 01:45:19.920 --> 01:45:27.980 WLWV Board Room: working with you and your team, and and watching Kim do the work that she consistently does. I have nothing but the utmost faith in 626 01:45:28.160 --> 01:45:37.129 the committee and you and your team and Remo. and it's I know that you guys will get the right people in the room to 627 01:45:37.770 --> 01:45:43.860 WLWV Board Room: prepare yourselves for the forecast and for a future bond that may need to be introduced to our community. 628 01:45:43.940 --> 01:45:45.820 and I hope that 629 01:45:46.260 --> 01:45:56.640 WLWV Board Room: people understand that a short-term blurb of Covid is not going to disrupt the long-term growth of this community and this area, whether you like it or not. 630 01:45:57.120 --> 01:45:59.030 WLWV Board Room: So 631 01:45:59.120 --> 01:46:09.680 WLWV Board Room: it's just the way it goes. And so I hope that as you go through this process, if there's any way that we can support you. You'll have my support, I can tell you that. So like 632 01:46:12.060 --> 01:46:27.339 WLWV Board Room: I'll be oh, can I? I'll be supporting this update as well, because I really do believe that planning for the future is critical to meet the needs of our students 633 01:46:27.340 --> 01:46:47.300 WLWV Board Room: and our growing community. And I wanna thank you and Kim for your leadership. And our community also for passing a bond that provides our students with excellent facilities that match their excellent education. And I can't 634 01:46:47.450 --> 01:47:01.399 WLWV Board Room: say enough how fortunate we are to be in a district that cares so much about its facilities and the environment our students learn in and we can be really proud of that. So yeah. 635 01:47:03.080 --> 01:47:05.099 WLWV Board Room: alright, Dr. Ludwig. 636 01:47:06.510 --> 01:47:30.229 WLWV Board Room: I want to thank you for your comments so far, and I would I would say, this is an extraordinary amount of work and task that potentially, you're going to give permission for us to do but I think to anyone in the community watching, you know, if there's a question out there, you know, hey? I see houses going up, or I'm kind of wondering what's going on the district. 637 01:47:30.450 --> 01:47:59.369 WLWV Board Room: Does the School Board know? And are they making any plans? And that document, Pat? If you could hold it up again? That's exactly what that is. It's about paying attention, bringing in the experts looking ahead, being good stewards of our patrons, most precious resource, their income, their investment in their homes their community and doing right and when we have beautiful schools that we can open and people wonder 638 01:47:59.700 --> 01:48:20.919 WLWV Board Room: how they got there and the timing of them. It's because school boards before you superintendents before me tasked a long range planning committee to do that far vision that we're reaping the benefits of today. And so this move, this vote tonight allows our long range planning committee to look well into the future and make sure that 639 01:48:20.920 --> 01:48:44.480 WLWV Board Room: children of the future in this community, and homes and businesses and future school boards have the same resource and ability to ribbon, cut and open the new school, or make sure that the roof is still working on a school, and somewhere in the district, or that the resources are there for the next wave of technology that we know we might need in a few years. 640 01:48:44.800 --> 01:49:05.680 WLWV Board Room: So it's it's large work. All those pages on there represent an extraordinary amount of research and reports. And different task force groups that do some studies and then bring their findings that go into that report. And Pat looks like you want to say something. It's on our website. 641 01:49:05.680 --> 01:49:19.429 WLWV Board Room: I would encourage anyone and everyone to read it. I tried to be more general in my description, but this is a very in-depth process that will take 642 01:49:20.370 --> 01:49:22.349 WLWV Board Room: well, well over a year. 643 01:49:22.560 --> 01:49:27.880 WLWV Board Room: We bring in professionals, in demographics, in long range, planning. 644 01:49:27.930 --> 01:49:40.359 WLWV Board Room: An architectural team that helps lead us. This is a very detailed process, led by professionals that do this work. 645 01:49:40.580 --> 01:49:42.620 WLWV Board Room: each one individually. 646 01:49:42.850 --> 01:49:45.449 WLWV Board Room: That over a 647 01:49:46.050 --> 01:49:52.999 WLWV Board Room: a very steady but long period of time eventually will produce a document like this. 648 01:49:53.340 --> 01:49:57.670 WLWV Board Room: But I would encourage anyone that has any questions 649 01:49:57.730 --> 01:50:02.049 WLWV Board Room: to take the time to read this document. And it's online. 650 01:50:03.000 --> 01:50:08.100 WLWV Board Room: the printed copy. I seldom use it other than here. 651 01:50:08.150 --> 01:50:12.470 WLWV Board Room: You can always look at the long range plan. but somebody's planned. 652 01:50:13.740 --> 01:50:14.690 WLWV Board Room: Thank you. 653 01:50:15.520 --> 01:50:20.610 Shall we turn it over now to Director Douglas to call the vote. 654 01:50:20.670 --> 01:50:22.830 WLWV Board Room: Thank you. Director Schumacher. 655 01:50:22.860 --> 01:50:28.079 WLWV Board Room: director, sloop, I chair Taylor, Vice Chair, Wyatt. 656 01:50:28.500 --> 01:50:31.830 WLWV Board Room: Director Vidal. I thank you. 657 01:50:34.020 --> 01:50:38.609 WLWV Board Room: And we get to talk about another piece of that book. 658 01:50:38.730 --> 01:50:45.200 WLWV Board Room: with the naming of a new primary school. And turn that over to Doctor David Pryor. 659 01:50:45.330 --> 01:51:04.260 WLWV Board Room: Yeah, I get to talk about a particularly exciting project. As Kim Jordan mentioned. We have a beautiful school design already being built, you can see changes every time you drive by the Frog Pond property, and so we'd like to bring forward a practice for selecting the name for our school. 660 01:51:04.270 --> 01:51:06.359 you know, as we start to think around 661 01:51:06.410 --> 01:51:16.430 WLWV Board Room: communicating about the school and building a school community having a name of the location is extremely exciting and important. So 662 01:51:16.550 --> 01:51:25.279 WLWV Board Room: as you likely know, board policy Ff. Provides board members guidance on this matter, and it's referenced. At the end of this memo 663 01:51:25.580 --> 01:51:40.759 WLWV Board Room: our past practice has been for the district to include submissions by patrons to the board to consider. So that's a strong part of our process. That you'll see. So we have a process that we'd like to recommend to you for 664 01:51:40.760 --> 01:52:01.580 WLWV Board Room: for your consideration. And it's based on the a process we recently used to name Riverside High School. It's a little more simplified because that was also communicating reasons why we would want people to come to the new high school, whereas this will be a you know, a boundary school district element primary school. 665 01:52:01.610 --> 01:52:08.590 WLWV Board Room: So the process is that the district will advertise and invite community to submit potential school names 666 01:52:08.610 --> 01:52:15.099 WLWV Board Room: with their rationale to the District office no later than January, 19, 2,024. 667 01:52:15.230 --> 01:52:31.430 WLWV Board Room: The district will have a link on the website for public submissions. Our current primary schools will provide information about the naming process and their school updates and on their websites and at school events. Pta meetings, whenever they have a chance to engage families. 668 01:52:32.070 --> 01:52:38.260 WLWV Board Room: names of community members, current or historic figures, will not be considered for this process. 669 01:52:38.830 --> 01:52:51.939 WLWV Board Room: and the district will gather a representative group of community members and staff, along with an assistant superintendent and superintendent, to review all submissions and create a slate of top recommended names. 670 01:52:51.950 --> 01:52:58.089 WLWV Board Room: These recommendations will not be based solely on popularity or frequency of submission of a name. 671 01:52:58.470 --> 01:53:08.920 WLWV Board Room: and then the final slate will be submitted to the Board, along with the raw data of all submissions. At the February fifth, 2,024 Board meeting 672 01:53:09.010 --> 01:53:12.550 the Board will review the slate of recommended submissions. 673 01:53:12.570 --> 01:53:16.550 WLWV Board Room: discuss and vote on a name from that slate at the board meeting. 674 01:53:18.580 --> 01:53:26.480 WLWV Board Room: That's the process we would like to propose for you, and we're excited. Once you have named a process to begin communicating to the community. 675 01:53:27.500 --> 01:53:28.510 WLWV Board Room: Thank you. 676 01:53:28.910 --> 01:53:47.759 WLWV Board Room: Comments. Say, there's no action needed tonight. We just want to give the board plenty of information upfront. If you have any questions before we go out to the public with this information, you need to know before we start advertising it and getting submissions. So do you have any questions about the process, or any comments about that? 677 01:53:49.000 --> 01:53:56.080 WLWV Board Room: A vice chair? Wyatt, has a question in policy. FF. 678 01:53:56.630 --> 01:54:09.749 WLWV Board Room: For that third sentence in the policy considerations for request to name a facility or space will be made for memorials, cash donations, or other reasons at the discretion of the Board. 679 01:54:10.100 --> 01:54:10.910 WLWV Board Room: What 680 01:54:11.030 --> 01:54:20.820 WLWV Board Room: do you know? Kind of the intention behind that language? Because that seems it doesn't seem like something you'd find for a public school district. 681 01:54:23.470 --> 01:54:24.470 WLWV Board Room: I can. 682 01:54:24.930 --> 01:54:46.209 WLWV Board Room: So that's some older language. We can always be updated by the board. But that does happen. Not typically for a school unless there's some land donation, and and the board wants to consider that. But sometimes there's a smaller facility maybe a sports field area or 683 01:54:46.570 --> 01:54:54.030 WLWV Board Room: score boards, or you know some smaller things. And so, in the general definition of facility. 684 01:54:54.110 --> 01:55:03.330 WLWV Board Room: Some of these things might come up, and and boards have just kept that in their policies there could be a consideration made in that regard. 685 01:55:04.580 --> 01:55:12.970 WLWV Board Room: Thank you. I just wasn't sure if we were looking at like Dutch Bros elementary. So wanted to make sure that like this was taken into account. Yeah. 686 01:55:15.510 --> 01:55:17.689 WLWV Board Room: Any other questions or comments? 687 01:55:20.070 --> 01:55:20.810 WLWV Board Room: Oh, yeah. 688 01:55:21.840 --> 01:55:35.139 WLWV Board Room: Mic first. Dr. Parr, so that the February date I'm just wondering how we came. II know how busy things will be in the next couple of months. I'm just wondering, are we confident that that's 689 01:55:35.590 --> 01:55:41.059 WLWV Board Room: and add adequate time? Or do we also have the flexibility along the way to say, Look, we need we need more time. 690 01:55:41.190 --> 01:55:57.919 WLWV Board Room: Yeah, that's a great question. We do have flexibility. We modeled this process after the timeline for Riverside High School, which did work very well, so that gives us the confidence that we can meet this timeline. But if we need to go back to the drawing board as we start collecting names. We could certainly consider that 691 01:55:58.440 --> 01:55:59.680 WLWV Board Room: to add more time. 692 01:56:01.270 --> 01:56:24.150 WLWV Board Room: we've kind of learned sometimes with surveys. If you give too big of a window, people forget, but if you make it a little smaller with a lot of repetition for, get it in, get it in, get it in then. We get pretty good response rate. Lots on people's minds. I appreciate that. II just I always get concerned around. There's certain time of year when it just seems like. 693 01:56:24.330 --> 01:56:39.100 WLWV Board Room: yeah, it's hard to communicate certain times the year. But if we're not getting a lot of generative response back, we, you know, we can make that decision to elongate the timeline. We want you to have a good solid slate to pick from. 694 01:56:41.290 --> 01:56:44.210 WLWV Board Room: Thank you. Thank you. We'll get rolling on it. 695 01:56:44.270 --> 01:56:45.279 WLWV Board Room: Appreciate it. 696 01:56:46.280 --> 01:57:01.240 WLWV Board Room: Business office. Dr. Hughes. Welcome. Good evening. And it's so nice to see everyone tonight. So I have 2 items that I would like to present the first one, either finance. So updates 697 01:57:01.960 --> 01:57:02.980 WLWV Board Room: us 698 01:57:04.850 --> 01:57:15.410 WLWV Board Room: last one, please. Yes. So this is the financial information for general informed as of October 30, first and 699 01:57:15.670 --> 01:57:28.899 WLWV Board Room: this report this time is we have a few items that different compared to the last report that I presented to you. The first items is the first live. We see the property tax. 700 01:57:28.950 --> 01:57:37.649 WLWV Board Room: and then the State School Fund and local option levy, and the last item will see the salary and the Benefits Association 701 01:57:37.790 --> 01:57:45.999 WLWV Board Room: do the salary and then I would like to go to the next slide, so I can explain in depth for that. 702 01:57:47.330 --> 01:58:06.299 WLWV Board Room: So when I mentioned about the property tax. What difference between the GM. Projected and the adopted purchase is that on October 10 the business office received the letter from the county from the department of assessment and taxation from both Cali. 703 01:58:06.300 --> 01:58:21.019 WLWV Board Room: Blackama County, and wasn't county that certified that the property tax for the school district 22 8 24 would be 48.6 million, which is like 704 01:58:21.060 --> 01:58:25.579 WLWV Board Room: and 4 million more than the adopted budget. 705 01:58:25.980 --> 01:58:34.279 WLWV Board Room: And this the reason the attack levies for 2224 706 01:58:34.460 --> 01:58:52.570 WLWV Board Room: estimate higher than the adopted virtues is because, there is the assessment value that came in higher than the estimate. So we estimate at 3.2 7%. But the assess value came in it 707 01:58:52.700 --> 01:58:54.690 WLWV Board Room: 4.2 2%. 708 01:58:54.850 --> 01:59:18.999 WLWV Board Room: And then the second reason for that is the Osborne renewal from the city of youth. Andville is came in less in this tax year compared to prior year. The reason for that, because they terminate their 2,000 plan with couple of West side area that they 709 01:59:19.180 --> 01:59:27.199 WLWV Board Room: conflict that So although the county certified rust at 48 points. 710 01:59:27.490 --> 01:59:31.400 WLWV Board Room: but the county also a virus to factor 711 01:59:31.410 --> 01:59:34.530 WLWV Board Room: the 96% of the collection rate. 712 01:59:34.590 --> 01:59:50.229 WLWV Board Room: because the 46% factor is we need to look into the compression losses and the 3% discount. If the taxpayer paid a tax in phone by November thirtieth by November fifteenth. 713 01:59:51.190 --> 02:00:20.949 WLWV Board Room: and and also that uncollected tax that somehow only unable to pay. So that why, we use a rate of 96%, and with the raise at 96 the difference between what the district anticipate to receive would be 46.7 million versus the adopted budget of 44 million. That give us the difference of 2.6 million higher than the adopted budget 714 02:00:22.150 --> 02:00:39.870 WLWV Board Room: and the same on this. The second one is the same with the local option. The local option came in a little bit higher, but based on the 96%. It came out in the total of 112,000 more than the adopted budget. 715 02:00:42.180 --> 02:00:53.480 WLWV Board Room: the next one, please. So there is a invert relationship between the property tax versus the sales fund. 716 02:00:53.600 --> 02:00:58.510 WLWV Board Room: the poverty tax would consider their local revenue. 717 02:00:58.740 --> 02:01:07.010 WLWV Board Room: So if you see the needle one that I highlight 2324, general purpose Grant. 718 02:01:09.450 --> 02:01:21.429 WLWV Board Room: The total of our formula is 104.8 million, that number combined of local and revenue, and the State school fund. 719 02:01:21.780 --> 02:01:28.910 WLWV Board Room: So just the bottom one. As you see, the total revenue is 45.2 million 720 02:01:29.100 --> 02:01:32.479 WLWV Board Room: and minus the 721 02:01:33.560 --> 02:01:43.939 WLWV Board Room: 1109. Here, 109 here combined, of 5 million of the transportation, so 104, without the transportation, 109 with the transportation. 722 02:01:44.000 --> 02:01:49.390 WLWV Board Room: So it come out to 64.6 million for the stay school fund. 723 02:01:49.520 --> 02:01:55.560 WLWV Board Room: But now the next one, please. Now. when I 724 02:01:55.690 --> 02:02:06.259 WLWV Board Room: provide an estimate to ode back in last December, and we estimate 44 million that it coming from property tax. 725 02:02:06.280 --> 02:02:14.319 WLWV Board Room: But now we estimate 2.6 million more, so that increased the local revenue from 40 726 02:02:14.470 --> 02:02:27.689 WLWV Board Room: 5.2 million to 47.8 million, and because of that the State School fund will be reduced in order to fit in with the formula that already have for us. 727 02:02:29.350 --> 02:02:31.929 WLWV Board Room: So back to the main report, please. 728 02:02:35.710 --> 02:02:37.480 WLWV Board Room: I'm off. 729 02:02:37.570 --> 02:02:44.579 WLWV Board Room: Thank you. So with this, the first slide, you see that the year end protection. 730 02:02:44.630 --> 02:02:53.200 WLWV Board Room: we estimate to be received 46.7 million, which is 2.6 million higher than the adopted budget. 731 02:02:53.270 --> 02:03:03.590 WLWV Board Room: and then under the fund. In last report I report 64 million, but now it reduced by that 2.6 million. 732 02:03:03.620 --> 02:03:12.929 WLWV Board Room: so you can see the Gn. Projected. Say school fund is very much similar to the adoptive project that we estimate that years ago. 733 02:03:13.050 --> 02:03:21.069 WLWV Board Room: and then a hundred 12,000 that projected to come in a little bit higher than the adopted budget. 734 02:03:22.060 --> 02:03:47.300 WLWV Board Room: So beside the revenue have a little bit of attendance in Litman report. We also have a little bit tangents in a salary, and OP. E. Because we have the sia grant that came in 1.4 million higher than the adopted budget. So we ship qualify Fta 735 02:03:47.640 --> 02:04:04.319 WLWV Board Room: general on fund into the Sa. Grant, and then we also have High school subset. The actual work came in 250,000 less than the adopted budget, and we also do some shipping to make sure that we stay within the grain of world. 736 02:04:04.520 --> 02:04:19.479 WLWV Board Room: So with that the estimate for 2324 year balance will be 19.3 million or 14.96% of the total revenue for the general fund. 737 02:04:22.200 --> 02:04:25.609 WLWV Board Room: I will stop here and see if you have any question for me. 738 02:04:28.020 --> 02:04:52.739 WLWV Board Room: I just have a statement, and I think it's it's something that that you've talked to before, but just wanted to reiterate, especially since we're in this time of asking for the local option renewal levy, and folks may see that ending fund balance amount and just a reminder that the Government Finance Officers Association of America, which has given us all of these awards over the year for audits and for budgets. 739 02:04:52.740 --> 02:05:17.699 And I think Dr. Hughes has been recognized individually. For her work. Their recommendation is that any government entity? Have 2 months of revenue. Saved as ending fund balance or around 1516%. And so for our ending fund balance to be at that 19.3 million dollar amount. Is really consistent with best practices. It's really 740 02:05:17.700 --> 02:05:31.079 there designed for, you know, the emergencies that might happen. And so I know. Sometimes when you look at numbers like this, it can be tempting, as the community to say, why are we asking for more money? But just a reminder that 741 02:05:31.080 --> 02:05:52.040 WLWV Board Room: we're on track to have, you know, a very responsible, fiscally conservative budget that gives us the reserves. We need to continue our excellent operation. So thank you, as always, for a great presentation on the ups and downs and highs and lows of trying to budget and plan. For all of this I appreciate it. 742 02:05:54.160 --> 02:05:58.450 WLWV Board Room: Thank you. Any other question for me on the financial information. 743 02:06:01.660 --> 02:06:07.870 WLWV Board Room: So the next item I have is the quarterly report for the investment. 744 02:06:07.930 --> 02:06:37.030 WLWV Board Room: So, as you know, most of the money that the district hell, we put this in the Lg IP. That is a local government investment pool, and every year around August, august 30. First, the Lgp. Within the Oregon Charter. They will send out letter to let us know the limitation that the district allowed to put the money in there, and this year's is about 59 million. 745 02:06:37.250 --> 02:06:52.830 WLWV Board Room: So throughout the year. You can. We have several money that come into restaurant during the month of November. Such active property tax, the local option, the say school fund, and then the capital bond. 746 02:06:52.910 --> 02:07:08.010 WLWV Board Room: So sometime we have more than 59 million in the Lg. IP. So that while the business office, reaching out to Pipe or Sandler, the investment company to help us with the investment and 747 02:07:08.150 --> 02:07:10.990 WLWV Board Room: just saw the net report on. 748 02:07:13.310 --> 02:07:16.130 WLWV Board Room: Yes. So this one 749 02:07:17.300 --> 02:07:26.810 WLWV Board Room: This a capture on September 29, with a 43 million under the power value but one. 750 02:07:26.930 --> 02:07:52.510 WLWV Board Room: The first one is 5 million already mature. So in my report, I say 38 million. So this 38 million, it breaks down into a very short term investment like 3 months, no more than 6 months. And this investment, based on the spending plan that the Bond office provided we work with remote and pat, and then they will let me know 751 02:07:52.510 --> 02:08:18.499 WLWV Board Room: which one how much money then they need for the production project, and then, based on that type. I turn around and then work with 5%. And this investment, and then they show the power value the majority. And then that the interest earned. So on an average right now is on 4.2 2% of the return rate 752 02:08:24.360 --> 02:08:33.519 WLWV Board Room: next. But the last item or any question on investment. Could could we go back to the financial summary just real quickly? 753 02:08:33.770 --> 02:08:40.270 WLWV Board Room: I know it's a lot to digest, but I just want to share just maybe layman's terms. 754 02:08:40.430 --> 02:08:45.610 WLWV Board Room: that relationship between the property taxes. And then 755 02:08:45.820 --> 02:08:52.730 WLWV Board Room: the State School fund is is that inverse relationship? So what we're describing tonight is 756 02:08:52.760 --> 02:09:01.169 WLWV Board Room: when we actually realize that we get more property taxes. The county tells us. then our State school fund goes down from the state 757 02:09:01.200 --> 02:09:22.550 WLWV Board Room: communities that maybe don't collect as much in their property taxes than get more from the State School fund. It's a way of equalizing across Oregon. How much school districts get so that it's not completely contingent on local property taxes. There's an equalization methodology that was put in place years ago through legislation. 758 02:09:23.000 --> 02:09:46.710 WLWV Board Room: So it's hard to estimate back in May when we're doing the budget. What's gonna happen until we get those reports from the county and our business office does their best with information that they're starting to get. But it's not unusual to then get when we get those actual numbers about what's going to be collected in November projectedly collected, that we have an adjustment to make one way or the other. So 759 02:09:52.010 --> 02:09:53.330 WLWV Board Room: anyone else? 760 02:09:54.770 --> 02:09:55.600 All right. 761 02:09:56.840 --> 02:10:01.670 WLWV Board Room: Okay. So the last item I have is 762 02:10:01.690 --> 02:10:16.429 WLWV Board Room: the distinguished project, presentation award that the district received from Gfoa. So this is, I believe, year number 4 that would receive this award, and this one, the 763 02:10:16.520 --> 02:10:30.120 WLWV Board Room: Jfoa have a committee. They look at the policy document that we submit the financial plan to operation guys and a communication device. So the district. 764 02:10:30.200 --> 02:10:36.669 WLWV Board Room: how to qualify the full area in order to receive your work from them. 765 02:10:36.830 --> 02:10:42.189 WLWV Board Room: So this is a big thank you to the staff in the business office. 766 02:10:42.260 --> 02:10:54.449 WLWV Board Room: All of our assistance superintendent, director, and school principal, and our wonderful superintendent, and especially Budget Committee member, who spent a lot of time 767 02:10:54.720 --> 02:11:06.089 WLWV Board Room: come to meet me with me prior to the budget process, and then ask very wonderful question. Allow us to have the opportunity to share the information with public. 768 02:11:06.470 --> 02:11:07.650 WLWV Board Room: Thank you. 769 02:11:11.240 --> 02:11:25.739 WLWV Board Room: Yeah. I just wanted to congratulate you on this award. I know that. I also very much appreciate the Budget Committee, but I also appreciate you and all your hard work and the way you make 770 02:11:25.850 --> 02:11:43.810 WLWV Board Room: this very. It is complicated budget and financial information so understandable to us and hopefully, the community as well. So I wanted to thank you for that cause. I really appreciate it. So thank you. Yeah. Thanks. 771 02:11:50.760 --> 02:11:59.020 WLWV Board Room: Okay. My last item to report is the proposed calendar for 2425 budget. 772 02:11:59.100 --> 02:12:18.230 WLWV Board Room: So, as you can see, like right now, we already talk about a budget for 2425. So by December I will collect off the information based on the financial trend that I receive, or I have during that time to build a budget for 2425. So therefore, you know, when. 773 02:12:18.320 --> 02:12:21.340 WLWV Board Room: when 2425 arrives, you know 774 02:12:21.460 --> 02:12:25.960 WLWV Board Room: the estimate that we make for the purchase is only a year owned. 775 02:12:26.290 --> 02:12:44.320 WLWV Board Room: So the background for this is this proposed calendar outline the timeline for the fiscal year 2425 budget. the calendar and outlines include information about midden schedule from November 23 to June 20 fourth. 776 02:12:44.460 --> 02:12:50.649 WLWV Board Room: the first Budget Committee Medicine A, proposed for May twentieth, and follow 777 02:12:51.030 --> 02:13:05.730 WLWV Board Room: on May 20 s, if needed. So and then the budget adoption is scheduled for June 10, at the overall meeting. So with that I'm shaking for approval on the proposed budget calendar. 778 02:13:09.920 --> 02:13:17.749 WLWV Board Room: We have a motion. I move that the Board approve the proposed calendar for the fiscal year 2024, 25 budget as presented. 779 02:13:19.930 --> 02:13:21.270 WLWV Board Room: I second 780 02:13:22.130 --> 02:13:24.070 WLWV Board Room: discussion questions. 781 02:13:25.970 --> 02:13:48.510 WLWV Board Room: I think I'll point out, and I think we run into this every May, but the Tuesday after May twenty-onest is Oregon primary election, and I don't. We don't have anything on that ballot. I don't know if it affects participation to do it the night before election day, but I'll just point out something we run into almost every year. I don't. 782 02:13:48.910 --> 02:13:55.270 WLWV Board Room: I think we could move ahead with this date, but we'll just raise that in case anyone else thinks it could limit 783 02:13:55.400 --> 02:13:59.170 WLWV Board Room: the participation of a committee or our community. 784 02:14:05.160 --> 02:14:06.629 WLWV Board Room: I hear. Silence. 785 02:14:08.090 --> 02:14:08.770 Right? 786 02:14:09.230 --> 02:14:13.920 WLWV Board Room: Thank you so much. Call the vote director, Douglas. 787 02:14:14.970 --> 02:14:25.740 WLWV Board Room: Director Shamaker, I vote. Yes, director, sloop. Aye, chair. Taylor. Yes, thank you. 788 02:14:35.510 --> 02:14:36.479 WLWV Board Room: There we go. 789 02:14:37.840 --> 02:14:41.900 We would move into a second public comment. But we 790 02:14:42.190 --> 02:14:46.119 WLWV Board Room: address that earlier. And 791 02:14:47.270 --> 02:14:53.639 WLWV Board Room: yeah, important dates for the board. Our next meeting will be our work session on December fourth 792 02:14:54.100 --> 02:14:54.930 WLWV Board Room: so. 793 02:14:55.960 --> 02:15:05.370 WLWV Board Room: and our next regular meeting is on December fourth also. So I if there isn't anything else 794 02:15:05.720 --> 02:15:08.600 WLWV Board Room: anyone any last final words? 795 02:15:09.190 --> 02:15:12.650 WLWV Board Room: No. right meeting, adjourned.
